Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

Hey don't worry, apparently we are talking with kids who aren't even in the portal and we have just now decided to start looking at recruiting on defense... while everyone else grabs talent in the portal... Self-imposing scholly's, we should still be able to take some on D at this point...
You worry plenty enough for the rest of us. We good.

There is no way We plan to self impose 10 scholarships in one year. CJH’s contract mentions he gets an extra year on his contract if the NCAA imposed scholarship reductions are more than 8. So it’s safe to assume self imposed reductions will be less than 8 likely over a couple of years.

IMO they are being conservative now because the 82 that are scheduled to be here in the fall are fairly firm. Now we know we will lose a few more after spring but the coaches may not know how many for sure right now. This scenario could also be the reason they want to wait until after spring to bring in more transfers.

You might want to know more about Heupels contract than me before you talk ****. It was announced when he signed that Heupel gets a rolling year for every year of sanctions TN is under. So for the next few years he will always have the original number of years on his contract.

Ha ha ha - I'll laugh at your posts regardless of my knowledge of Heupel's contract. You amuse me! Lol

Been watching Boba Fett. Not Western, but kinda is at the same time. It's embarrassingly bad.

Okay...thank goodness I'm not the only one. I loved the Mandalorian so had high hopes, but these first few episodes have been so pointless.

Also I must say The Witcher ended up being a lot better than I thought, quite enjoying that series.

I don't agree with the scholarship reductions, but it's all but a forgone conclusion that's what we're doing (people scoffed at that when I suggested it the other day as to why we weren't after more transfers).

I think we need some real patience and support of Heupel. 10 scholarships down is a huge deal. I don't like it either and wish we would tell the NCAA to shove it, but we're hamstringing our own program. Heupel needs to be here post sanctions (self-imposed and otherwise) for stability and also just in fairness to him.

It will be interesting to see how the administration responds if we have middling results (like this season) over the next few years. You know the fan base will be out for blood. Some will understand the circumstances, but we all know most won't or won't care. This place will turn toxic, and if it happens, it's mostly the administration's fault.

No idea how this plays out. Just spit balling here.

The important thing is Fulmer gets to keep his box and continue to walk around like he didn’t cause any of this.

Yeah, maybe. They tend to be pretty random, ignoring some stuff and dropping the hammer on others. By doing what we are, we are effectively negotiating with them and guiding the process. I really don't hate it. Door #1 might be a new car or a luxury vacation, but then again it might be a lawn mower or a shovel.
I don’t want to get back into a big discussion about it…… my years of watching the ncaa operate….. it always seems like you get worse punishment when you self/penalize than when you stand your ground…. We worked hand in hand with them…. Giving them all the details and allowing them to sit in on every interview…. They still haven’t ruled or sent the notice of allegations…. How hard of a process is this?

We’re aware, you’ve made your opinion on this abundantly clear.

IIRC Swain, Ainge, et al were all gushing over him at the time.

Just wondering, how much of your income is, or has been based on coaching football or evaluating players?

I don't see the relevance. Joe Miltin sux

10 strikes me as a massive overcorrection. Colorado years ago was paying recruits in addition to bribing them with sex and drugs and I think they lost 3 scholarships.
But for how many years? Maybe they are thinking 10 in one year is better than 3 over 3 or 4.

Taking a 10 scholarship reduction in one year seems excessive to me. Unless they're just ripping the bandaid off in one year. 3-5/year is the norm. Maybe they've decided to try and take one big punch instead of a few small punches. I'm not sure of that strategy with the 25 hard limit. Will make it difficult to get back to a full roster.

The 10 scholarship reduction appears to be on the 85 total limit and not the 25 per year hard limit. We did add 20 during the early signing period.

We were at 60+ scholarship players (don’t recall the exact number) going into the season. We weren’t getting up to the 85 number anyway with the 25 hard limit minus graduating players, portal transfers, and medical exemptions. So it appears that we may have estimated a 10+/- net increase. If that was the case, it was a brilliant move as we going to be around 75+/- anyway.

However, none of that factored in the NCAA giving up to a seven player exemption for those lost in the transfer portal. That came after we sent the internal investigation, along with any hypothetical self-imposed penalties, to the NCAA. If that is the case, what turned out to be a seemingly brilliant move has turned into quite the detriment.

[This is all just supposition as none of us truly know the facts.]

I'm guessing too but I don't think that's the case.

Everyone who saw him in training camp was 100% positive he was the guy

Then in the game the dude choked

The end

He wasn't overthrowing everyone in camp. He was throwing that thing all over the place and looked like an NFL QB. That is what they saw and if you were there you would think it too.

No one, in their right mind, is going to fire anyone on this staff anytime soon. Do a little research and look at the contract Heupel signed. This staff is doing an excellent job here and our administration understands that.

I figure they have to give sanctions on scholarships to show something in court. If they just fire him with cause and nothing happens to uni then it won’t look as good in court. But now they can say look how hurt we are

Wow, that's extremely lenient. That's basketball penalties.
I think, but don't know for sure, that part of it may have been because Colorado imposed severe sanctions on its own ability to recruit, independent of the NCAA. That's one of the reasons they've never been able to get back to even mediocrity. I went there for my PhD and when the prospective students were flown in for a recruiting visit they were incredibly strict about buying us anything because the rules were so widespread that they even touched a bunch of nerds who wanted to become professors.

They haven't *officially* ruled. If we've been in conversations as has been claimed, I would assume that what we are doing is meeting with their approval.
