I understand this explanation completely. I think people are saying I'm excusing Howard and I am not at all. I've repeatedly said he absolutely should at least be suspended. I could see fines and maybe a 1 game suspension for Gard though, because I simply think he played more of a role in this than he's getting credit for.I’ve had this discussion in another thread. I believe Gard was just trying to explain to Howard why he called the timeout. Howard didn’t want to hear it. Rational people don’t expect the reaction that came after that. It’s natural to try to explain/settle a controversy, and resorting to an open hand punch obviously was out of bounds.
Maybe Gard gets fined, but I will find it hard to believe if gets suspended. That’s kind of like the double technical cop outs they like to call.
Howard raged violent over a time out call by Wisconsin. Think about that. A time out, one that that they could call per the rules of the game. Didn't matter if there was one second on the clock or fifteen minutes. Add in that it is a game - not back alley thuggery or a war - a game in front of thousands of people and possibly millions on TV. Howard's opportunity to show his displeasure was after the game on TV trashing them for taking a silly time out. Instead we saw what we saw. Speaks volumes to the guy's state of mind and character, especially after the Maryland game incident.
UM already is embroiled in a huge scandal in their football program defending numerous lawsuits over a former team physician for needless anal probing incidents with football players for decades. Another person in authority abusing his position and others. Now they have Howard. UM leadership is on the clock.
As to the big talkers on here who are willing to mix it up or look the other way, next time you get jacked out of the blue by a younger, much bigger guy over that Waffle House parking space you took that he wanted - take it like a man and do nothing about it. No big deal, just go all death match with him. lol
Not sure what the last part is about but you nailed the first 2/3rds. Must've missed the reference to the rest.Howard raged violent over a time out call by Wisconsin. Think about that. Only way he can get out of that mess is claim someone said something racist towards him and he reacted that way as a result. It’s so easy to say that now and have no repercussions of your own actions because then it’s automatically “justified”.
Keep in mind this isn’t meant to start a debate about racism, just something I think he could say to get him off the hot seat about it.

Until Howard threw hands, no one did anything that warranted outside punishment. So because HE escalated the situation others have to be punished? Makes no sense.1. This wasn't between two employees who know each other and work for the same boss, etc. 2. Gard didn't simply "touch" (he grabbed him and held him) him by the elbow and restrain him to say something (something he absolutely has no authority or right to do, especially after Howard tried to walk away). Gard aggressively got in his face too. So, in your analogy- you get back in your colleagues face and your colleague was mad in the first place because of something you said and y'all have a yelling match.
It's not 1-sided. These things never are - and that's not an opinion. That's conflict-resolution 101. He doesn't deserve the same level of punishment as Howard - but he deserves punishment and that doesn't mean they're consenting to "expecting violence" which is an absolutely absurd jump.
