It won't sink in. He's a man and can take it. Thinks everybody should. We should all be able to just slap or punch people we don't like at will with no legal consequences. lol
Good grief…. The problem with society is that we run straight to the police and involve lawyers in every little issue…. The Wisconsin coach wasn’t hurt…..Seems like that coach handled it exactly the way I said that I would handle it.

I think what bugs me, is the whole "it's sports" and that all seems to give these grown men an excuse for acting like fools. "things get heated"

Sports specifically shapes more young boys than any other form of entertainment. These are supposed to be role models for the men of the future and they get free passes for unacceptable behavior ALL THE FLIPPING TIME.

Where I work two contractors got into a heated argument (verbal only) over some differences of opinion about something. Both were fired that day by the Project Manager. Zero tolerance policy means zero tolerance.

Meh. I'm a believer in Charles Barkley's philosophy of "I am not a role model". Parents are role models. Athletes and coaches are just random strangers.

Yeah unfortunately that's not how it works. You're on the TV, you're in their video games, you're promoting the clothes they wear, the drinks and food they want to consume, whether you like it or not you're a role model.

And even if you don't agree with that side of it, why the hell can't we ask these millionaires to get held accountable for things that would get other people in different work environments fired?

Am I alone in thinking we need to allow angry coaches to beat the crap out of each other after games? It just needs to be organized, and sponsored by Waffle House. No willy-nilly cheap shots in the handshake line.

I really hate it when I agree with @Weezer, but the big purple fur ball is on to something here. Get an octagon, sell tickets, PPV possibilities, and the list goes on.

I'm not against reasonable accountability, but I disagree with your role model view. YOU are your kids' role model. It's up to you (and your spouse) to teach them to be the people you want them to be.

Kids will naturally look to sports figures as role models, but if their parents aren't guiding them to show them that some behavior is unacceptable and should not be looked up to then they will learn the wrong message. Parents not doing their jobs and keeping their kids from looking up to bad role models, like LeBron James, is more of a problem than unruly sports figures.

One, I appreciate your sarcasm because I know truthfully you love me. Two, not only does it allow for added entertainment, but we also get ring girls.

Sadly you're missing the point. I try to be my son's role model, but I don't get to choose that for him. Ultimately every child will pick who they want as their role model, I hope it's me since I have control over how I behave and how I communicate my choices to him. But I can't force him to choose me as his role model.

It ended up the way I figured it would…. A few game (5) suspension for Howard and a small penalty for the Wisconsin coach( I was thinking one game but they fined him 10,000 instead). People were overreacting to this issue….

I see both, saw the video before looking at VN. When the Wis coach stopped him while that mad, I cringed a little. But when Howard slapped the guy, my immediate reaction was "ah hell, he's bout to learn that he CAN'T do that". (Seriously, really can't do that) Just wasn't sure if it'd be suspension or firing.

Forward to VN - a 5 page debate, the arm touch had become "laying hands on" and the slap progressed to "open handed punch" then to "punch". So yeah.. I really do get those saying it needed handled. But I'm also a little surprised how strongly many feel on how it's handled. No doubt in my mind that Howard was in the wrong but atst, probably wouldn't have EVER given it another thought, if it hadn't reached VN battle royale status, lol 🤷

But see that's kind of my thing. Even you expect more from the kids parents than the sports star that is financially set for life.

I mean I get that we're all just human, but goodness. Why is it so much to want these celebrities to be held to the same standard as me? I'm grinding at work, raising a child, shoulder all the burdens of being a husband and father. Is it wrong of me to say "I wouldn't escalate that situation to physical violence, and neither should they!"

I think you're missing the point. No matter whether your child follows your example or not, YOU are still the role model. You (and your spouse) brought them into this world, and it is your responsibility, no one else's, to raise them. Everyone gets to choose their own path in life. If your kids choose to be different than what you want, that's on them, not some athlete, or celebrity, or anyone else. It's not upon anyone to act in a certain way to appease others. I think you're overreaching with your expectations of others.
