Would it have been five games if there were 15 left in the season? Maybe, maybe not. I don't think people were over-reacting at all. He has to be the bigger man and set the example. It ended up the way I figured it would…. A few game (5) suspension for Howard and a small penalty for the Wisconsin coach( I was thinking one game but they fined him 10,000 instead). People were overreacting to this issue….

Steve McNair and Steve Irwin were my role models growing up. My parent's guided my values.Kids will naturally look to sports figures as role models, but if their parents aren't guiding them to show them that some behavior is unacceptable and should not be looked up to then they will learn the wrong message. Parents not doing their jobs and keeping their kids from looking up to bad role models, like LeBron James, is more of a problem than unruly sports figures.
I just bumped into @SweetasSoda, she’s still plugging along. She is a sweet one!
Our society has become very litigious. I read an article yesterday about a lady who jumped to her death on a cruise ship. Another female passenger, who saw it happen, is gonna sue the cruise line for some form of compensation for mental distress. She mentioned a ticket for another cruise as compensation. I'm thinking this is the one who should have jumped overboardGood grief…. The problem with society is that we run straight to the police and involve lawyers in every little issue…. The Wisconsin coach wasn’t hurt…..Seems like that coach handled it exactly the way I said that I would handle it.

I recognized at a young age that role models weren't perfect people, and not everything they do needs to be looked up to. You can pick the good from the bad, and you don't have to wholly dismiss the good because of some bad.
That came from a little parental guidance. Especially from humble parents who were honest about their own shortcomings and failures. But it also came because I was able to recognize it myself.
Parents have a responsibility to guide. Public figures bare some responsibility to society, but at the end of the day they're imperfect people too. And lastly, we need to give some kids credit that they'll figure some things out.
I watched it and looked into the background of it. Are you trying to set him up to be mad?I see ya @Ulysees E. McGill! Also if you've not watched it yet, I recommend you check out The Power of the Dog...a very interesting western drama on Netflix.
Very seldom will kids have their own parents as role models. Besides, most kids will tell you their parents don't know anything. I have coached on the HS level and I have had many parents speak to me about this very subject. Coach(s) are probably the biggest role model for any athlete and players will take on the personality of the coach.Sadly you're missing the point. I try to be my son's role model, but I don't get to choose that for him. Ultimately every child will pick who they want as their role model, I hope it's me since I have control over how I behave and how I communicate my choices to him. But I can't force him to choose me as his role model.
The tournament committee was not gonna put Michigan in the tournament with their record. NIT team at best with that record. His punishment was basically nothing given their current record. It's only 5 games because Michigan is 14-11 and really has a slim chance at making the tournament anyway.
They have 3 top 25 teams left to play (Iowa, Illinois, @ Ohio State) this will be the reason they didn't make a late season push (for Michigan/Howard apologist)
When I first heard it, Howard knocked him out with a haymaker after being called a racial slur while the assistant grabbed him by the collar so the Wiscy coach could pummel him.I see both, saw the video before looking at VN. When the Wis coach stopped him while that mad, I cringed a little. But when Howard slapped the guy, my immediate reaction was "ah hell, he's bout to learn that he CAN'T do that". (Seriously, really can't do that) Just wasn't sure if it'd be suspension or firing.
Forward to VN - a 5 page debate, the arm touch had become "laying hands on" and the slap progressed to "open handed punch" then to "punch". So yeah.. I really do get those saying it needed handled. But I'm also a little surprised how strongly many feel on how it's handled. No doubt in my mind that Howard was in the wrong but atst, probably wouldn't have EVER given it another thought, if it hadn't reached VN battle royale status, lol
