The first time I heard Richard Pryor I was in the 10th grade, 1976, and a Sr. on the football team had an 8 track and we all rode around in his 69 Mustang and listened to it. To this day that tape has been one of, if not the funniest things I have ever heard. So many of the funny Movies and Shows from back then couldn't be made today because everybody has thinner skin.

Interesting! Didn't know he had a show.

I also had never read why he set himself on fire before seeing the special. Or that was he was bisexual with Marlon Brando, as well as a trans man. I love delving into old things I'm totally ignorant about. The world and individuals are way more complex than they first appear. I can only imagine a Robin Williams or George Carlin biography.

The Williams one was tough because we all know how it ends.

I finished Frasier with my wife 1-2 months ago and just the other day read a brief biography of Kelsey Grammar's wild and tragic life. Absolutely insane what that man has done and been through... and then was still able to accomplish professionally. Would love to read a full biography.

Swim lessons are critical. You can start your children before they’re a year old in lessons to teach them how to float on their backs. Please - parents do it. You can take every precaution (gates, alarms, etc) but teaching them how to stay alive in the water is the only real solution.

Three years ago, my 3yo had a scare. He fell in reaching for a toy, we were all out eating pizza on the pool deck, I ran like scalded dog over there scooped him up (tore up my toe in the process, thank God for adrenaline). But that entire summer leading up to that point he was jumping in with his puddle jumpers on, subermging conpletley and popping back up. He has always been the bravest of our boys. He was getting a hang of holding his breath, God was preparing him for that moment. Thank God we were out there, but he had the experience already of holding his breath, he didn’t inhale any water. You’re not wrong, lessons early.

I've been seeing concern about puddle jumpers and floaties recently. Idea being that it doesn't allow the kids to build the necessary muscles to stay afloat and gives them too much confidence around water rather than a healthy fear/respect until they are able swimmers. It's an interesting theory and the logic checks out. Idk if its necessarily true.

Yeah I could see that. And I do remember reading that. They’ll probably be a thing of the past pretty soon. But when you got a lot of kids, you can’t keep you’re eye on ‘em all.

Years from now, there will 350,000 folks claiming they were present when Drew Gilbert hit the grand slam walkoff against Wright State last year. I am sure it was an unmatched, indescribable feeling being there in person.

Edit: Thanks to @volsfan_17 for reminding me the opponent was Wright State and not Ohio.
I really was present for the Helton walk off grand slam.

Recruiting wars –

When Fulmer was the AD one of his presentations to the board was streamed and in the presentation he talked about recruiting. He said the previous year (2019) we had gotten 5 recruits that everyone else wanted but this year we needed to get twice that many.

I think a good way to identify the players that everyone wants are those players that have a composite rating of 95 or above. I’ve noted this a few years back. I don’t really see the difference between an 88 or 89 or 90 or whatever because by that point the services are trying to rank a kid somewhere between 300 and 400 or so. They’re not that good. Nobody would be but they do better with the top 100. That’s easier. Even then only about 50-60% of those guys pan out. For lower rated guys the percent of guys who pan out goes down pretty fast.

Anyway, in the table provided it can be seen where Georgia took a leap forward in recruiting. From 2018 on they’ve been able to keep pace with Alabama, who up until that point had no real competition in the conference.

Almost 50% of the top 100 players (or whatever the number is in a given year) end up signing with an SEC school. Texas A&M signed 20 last year. Nobody has ever done that before so obviously a bit of caterwauling is to be expected.

It appears that we may be on track to sign maybe around 8-10 or more of the top 100 guys this year. I’m hoping we do because all this nonsense about us being in the bottom half of the conference needs to be rebuffed. jmo.

I’ve said before I think it’s the players that make the coaches and not the other way around. I don’t for one minute believe Saban would have been anywhere near as successful as he’s been had he not had an overwhelming talent advantage. I think that’s also why Kirby has moved to the head of the line. jmo.

If Heupel can compete with the top recruiters in the conference and win our share of these elite guys year in and year out then I have no doubt he will have a lot of success on the field against the top half of the conference and he will have done something that our recent hires were unable to do, at least not on a consistent basis. jmo.

If we don’t get our share of these guys then our opponents will and we’ll be playing against them just like we’ve been doing for the past 15 years. For everyone of these guys Heupel gets it’s likely one less available to the Alabamas, Georgias, Floridas, and the LSUs of the conference. I don’t really care how this season goes in as much as the most important thing we need to do right now imo is to keep the positivity and momentum going as Heupel and Co. continue working to build an elite roster. jmo.

There’s an ancient power rising in the east. We are that power. We need to hold this course for at least the next 3 to 4 years if we are to return to our rightful place as the rulers of the SEC. jmo.

The simple formula for that to happen is ((Heupel & Staff) + (Spyre & VolNation)). jmo.

This table shows where the top 100 recruits signed in the SEC since 2014. 2023 is the current commitments of top 100 recruits within the conference.

That is absolute nonsense and way over thinking the issue….young kids don’t have fear/respect of anything which is why you have to watch them at all times…. They run in front of cars…. Play with sharp items….. swallow small toy parts… stick metal into outlets…. The puddle jumper is an amazing invention and we loved it when my son was young… we would take it off if we wanted to practice staying afloat or swimming. He is now 11 and swims like a fish.

Hahahaha. It’s like the pharmaceutical legalese - you may experience diarrhea, constipation, abnormal breast enlargement or shrinkage, growth of additional appendages (or not), plus general malaise.

Steroids sound awesome.

If used correctly testosterone in particular is pretty awesome. I loved it every time I took it. The sides for MOST people are very minor, and it is very well tolerated by most men. You look good, feel good, sleep better, eat better, gain strength and muscle, and have a much increased libido. It sort of reverts your body back to 18 years old in some ways. Most people that have problems with steroids are either taking to much, or not cycling off when they should and just keep taking them because they don't want to lose some of their gains. That's a very bad mistake.
