How hard is it to just randomize the gun delay? You really think an arbitrary amount of reflex time is better than that? You must be one of those people who believe every rule and law was fully fleshed out and researched because the establishment couldn't possibly be made up of ignorant or lazy or biased people.
You must be one of those people that think because you half brained an idea in 2 seconds, you have outsmarted an entire international sporting body in your infinite wisdom.

But okay. Off the top of my head.

1) The cadence is already random at the scale of tenths of seconds, which is what we are talking about.
2. Now matter what you increase the cadence to, it is still technically possible to time it.
3. Any athlete that exceeds the current known limitations of human reaction time will be under immediate scrutiny, as people will assume corruption between the athlete and the person with the starting pistol.

Under the current rule set, the timing of the starting pistol is irrelevant... As intended.

T.S. Eliot said April was the cruelest month. He was wrong. July is just brutal. It’s been almost 7 months since we saw our Vols on the field. Recruiting has slowed way down. No sporting events that are worth a damn. July. July is definitely the cruelest month. So ready for football.
At least you agree with a portion of his explanation of the cruelty: "mixing memory and desire"!

Formula One.

You're welcome.

Guess he ain’t jumpin on the Levis hype train.

The last time I saw one of the chump's posts (here), he was floating on a raft with a chick and forming an "L" with the floats. He was out there guaranteeing a win against... Louisville. I really don't think anyone can troll him more than he trolled himself.

The bold would seem to invalidate the entire issue and further delegitimize the entire ruling against the player.

"We DQed you for timing something at a randomized scale."

I don't have any dogs in the hunt, but that dog doesn't seem to hunt.

No dog here either but that's a good point. Seems it would make more sense to just have them run the race and then deduct their reaction time from it if it's deemed too fast.

Not a track guy, by any means, but what the hell. It's a slow day in July.

Dang... UK coaches getting in Twitter spats with journalists about opinions? Is it just me, or does that reek of thin skin? (I mean, I don't even think thin-skinned-Butch did that...?) Seems to me they'd have better things to keep them occupied.
Ol' rabbit ears hears everything and has to respond.

LOL, now your take is that they implemented this to prevent collusion between the gun and the athletes?! Goodness, we've arrived at far fetched.

If athletes want to gamble on false starting with a 0 strike policy and a multiple second window, fine. All the ones that matter would make the smart choice and wait for the gun.

And for the record, two collegiate and 1 international track people I talked to confirmed that this rule is considered arbitrary and asinine in their community. I'm sure you think the ncaa, etc...are infallible too with all their stupid rules, but sometimes something is just obviously wrong.
