Actually, the act of taunting and excessive celebrations is a new age trend. It’s the old school folks who don’t like it. It’s the old school folks who make the rules.

The practice of “banning” celebrations or taunting isn’t coming from a soft society, it’s coming from a soft group of “old school” men who don’t think it’s good sportsmanship. It is a return to a boring product.
We can disagree there. We are in an age where feelings matter more than results. Rewarding ideas over actions. Cheering on boys who want to compete in womens sports. Its about the generation that cries wolf when things dont go their way.

Well you’ve lost me there. Not seeing the connection between trans athletes eligibility and taunting/celebrating.

Lmao. Literally no 20 year olds are railing against this 😅

It's the old school. You're simply wrong in this instance. Also a bit biased to not see how older generations had their own forms of what is acceptable or not. All generations do. It is what it is.

Edit: in a way, it is indeed a microcosm of society. Just not how you say. It’s more like nearly all individual people, the majority of the people, want something. Some progress, some growth, some movement. But the select few who are old and a stuck in their ways (bc those ways work for them) don’t. So they do what they want and tell everyone else to F off.
What do you consider "new age"? . . taunting and excessive celebration has been going on for quite a long while. . . decades. . . definitely not "new age".

There is no ancient group of old men in a secret society who are hell bent on making rules that reflect what they consider to be the only way.

Only thing you forgot to do in your post was use the word "boomer".

I'd bet it was made for the "horns down" taunt against cry-baby Texas.
I think every fan base needs to take up "horns down" forever. ATM is super cringe U, but "horns down" was a lucky moment when even boot-sliders and yell-bois enjoyed a miracle once-in-a-lifetime good idea. Actually, to tell the truth, I've never noticed that even A&M was more cringey than the Tejas College steers.

They will receive such a warm welcoming into the SEC...102k horn downs 😅

Yeah, and MS ST stupid as cow bells.

One other thing that probably helped the taunting/celebration crap TX getting so butthurt about the horns down. As much as they hated the BaseVols, TX has a lot of money to throw around.
Great point. The cowbells should be called. Every. single. down. Or nothing called all year. I hate the rigged up noise.

You’re right. I forgot about all of the young men and women who set the rules for collegiate sports. They’re the ones outlawing all the fun antics, not the old guys in charge.

I think this definitely was the case back when endzone dancing first happened in the NFL. And the spread to the college game. Etc. But I think today all of that rhetoric is just connected people trying to rig outcomes. To take the huge recent case, I deny that the fans and media attacking the baseVols for enjoying themselves were "old school." I think that was just their cover story for trying to punishing the team they were jealous of. In football, I don't see any of that old school attitude remaining. I take it, again, to be manipulation. For example, I don't think they will stop Florida from chopping. I bet they wouldn't take a TD off the board for a bammer striking an endzone pose.

Sorry, see you just answered, but this is not a exactly duplicate, if you think about it.

New edit: I didn't see your edit before I wrote.

Somebody will gator chomp headed to the sideline in the joy of the moment. They'll be watching for that.
I will never forget with John Kelly got flagged for this. However, a year before this, Bo Scarborough stuck his hand in the face of one of our fans and there was nothing. They would have thrown a Tennessee player in jail had he done that.

Sure, they're not going to put people with little to no real life experience in a position to regulate a multiple billion $ industry.

That is not the point, which you obviously missed. Taunting and excessive celebration has been around a lot longer than you're implying. Maybe it's because you're just so young that you don't have enough memory to recall the taunting and celebrations that happened in the olden days.

A 65 year old person on the committee would have been in his late teens to mid 20's all those years ago when excessive celebration and taunting was taking place. If you want to research it, you could start with the Ickey shuffle or the rival fans using the FSU chop or Gators chomp or the Miami Hurricanes In the 80's. . . along with pretty much some variant of everything being done today. . .much of which was subdued in comparison to today in respect to sportsmanship.

Even if there were any 80-90 year old people on the committee, they aren't colluding with each other in an effort to put a blanket on the up and coming new era generation.

The new kids always want to think the older people are holding them down, when it's simply their inexperience and lack of knowledge in life that limits them. So many young people have been taught to be the victim that it's easy for them to look somewhere to put the blame. They even come up with conspiracy theories to explain what is really just them being cry-babies.

In this instance, I would say it's likely their entitled attitude & participation trophy upbringing that makes them feel like they're being bullied by mean old men. Many of them should learn the philosophy of sportsmanship before crying about not being able to dance for 20 seconds after every TD or 1st down. . . or acting like their 3rd down tackle in the 1st qtr was the game winning stop as time expired in the Superbowl.
