I don’t really care one way or another but this is what i just thought of with you post. A bloodied Marco finally getting to tag out.

I spent a bit of time running that claim down a few days ago. After basically OSU, Bama, Clemson, and UGA... the recruiting rankings actually do not predict the rankings all that well. UGA and Bama ranked high. The other 3 SEC teams that finished in the top 25 last year did not average recruiting in the top 25.

The further the recruiting sites get from endorsing the players those teams recruit... the less accurate they become.

The recruiting rankings DO predict your chances of winning a national championship though, and the SEC championship for that matter as well. Nick Saban could never turn Missouri, Vandy, or South Carolina into a title winner if he recruited just like they do now. It just can't be done. You have to have the Jimmy's and the Joe's.

So if a school signed a lot of those 3 stars that got drafted instead of the statistically better 4 stars that did not they would not be a better team?

Star based statistics are so flawed because the services using the best info available, hand a bunch of HS juniors 4 stars as the best 300 to 400 players and then if that does not play out Do not bump them back to 3 stars. Then to keep their roadmaps in line don’t have enough star slots left to elevate the late bloomers.

Then after 3-4 years some properly rated low star guys explode into ball players too and get drafted instead of the higher star guys too.

Percentages aside how else did 450 low star guys get drafted while about 250 4 stars did and 1000 did not? BTW what happened to the 40% of the 5 stars that did not get drafted over that same 3 year period?

I simply don’t think the accuracy of the star givers can be used to prove anything other than it is an impossible task.

It goes back to the ole meeting for a CEO. He asked accounting WHAT ARE THE NUMBERS and they supplied them. Then he asked a statistician WHAT DO THE NUMBERS SAY?
To which the statistician replied. WHAT DO YOU WANT THEM TO SAY?

Bet the heavy hitters are not blindly digging into the 4 star pool, but only in the upper reaches. That data will be hard to find.

The problem is you are using where guys get drafted in relation to their HS star rankings and that’s flawed. When a kid comes out of HS they are ranked according to many factors. But those kids have had NO high level coaching at the college level.

Take the CEO situation to a different level. If you were a CEO and we’re evaluating potential employees, who would you hire? Let’s say you were looking at 5 people. Experience is equal but two have degrees from Harvard, one from MIT, one from Liberty and the other from ETSU. Which ones are you gonna look at more or are gonna be more likely to hire? Please don’t say ETSU and Liberty. You are gonna look more at the Harvard and MIT people. Why? They are perceived to have been better prepared and more capable. The Harvard and MIT people are the 4 and 5*s. While the others are your 3*s.

There isn’t a team that’s win championships that are built upon 3* players. That doesn’t mean a team cannot have really good 3* players. But to win championships, you have to have a high amount of blue chip players. That’s undeniable. And by blue chips, I mean high 4 and 5* guys. The data proves it. We are talking about the COLLEGE level. Not the NFL.

So the devices get the top 4 mostly right. Those top 4 just so happens to be the teams year in and year out that win the championships. Interesting huh?

Is there a reason those of us in Knoxville never meet up IRL, or is it that I've just not been invited?

Just a reminder that a fantastic competitive appetizer for college football season starts this weekend (one game at 2pm central Friday on USA Network)…the English Premier League!

Come On You Irons!!
was just watching an epi of 'Spitting Image'. The puppet was given a box of poo by a Man United fan, kept getting bricks thrown at him by Everton fans. @VOLSONLY #Liverstool

EPL is so great. Starts a few weeks before football, a reason to get up and start drinking at 7 am before Tennessee games in the fall, and lasts way past NFL into May. Can’t wait for this weekend! YNWA

Kentucky sucks
Double like, but we really don’t have to voice it into existence. It’s known and has been for awhile. I didn’t reply to any that crap from Marco because it’s known and there wasn’t changing any minds, especially his. He’s got jack coming to his rescue, enough said. Jack and his ilk feeds off of this. I could say more on the contrived Marco debate, but why? When we know. Notice none of our resident cat fans never chimed in. (I still can’t unsee the two birds enjoying each other, thanks to whoever posted it).

Yes sir.
Which is why it make sense for them to bump up guys that commit there.
They want to look credible. Because they want people to invest time into their product.
They're trying to look knowledgeable VS actually being knowledgeable.

I still support them overall (recruiting sites) to raise awareness around country to some good football players, but they need to continue to fine tune their craft for sure.
