Food, beach, golf, history, and I have gotten into their craft beer, too.

Great times.

Edit: I have had to take time off from golf because of 4 kids. But some day, I am going to make the trip down to Kiawah and spend the money to play the Ocean Course. Probably when I am old.

Well, I live here (James Island). I think Charleston itself is a better place to visit than live. I'll be retiring in a couple of years and can't wait to leave the crowds and maybe move to the mountains.

Panama City is a better place to visit than live ( trust me, I’ve lived there).

Charleston, the barrier islands really, are something else imo

So, with this in mind...we're looking to move to East Tn in 2 years after I retire from teaching. All I really know about the area is from passing through or visiting. Any of you ET residents, or former residents, have any recommendations on good places to live or places to avoid?

Don't move to Sevier County mountains unless you want to more than double the crowds you have. Year round tourist madness now.

See my previous post. The Blount County area is far better in terms of avoiding tourists, yet providing easy access to the GSMNP. If we were not entrenched in Sevier County for decades we would be living somewhere around Maryville.

Or, if you really love the mountain life, you could stop just short of passing over the NC/TN state line.

The High Country, up above Asheville is really beautiful.

Think Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, etc..

I think Grier is getting way overrated simply Bc he’s maybe the most known commodity returning. I think he’s a 4th rounder at best in the NFL.

Yeah but there have been plenty of years where the most productive CFB QB is a kid or late round guy.

Love Boone

Remember when McElwain literally ran off Grier, then had sacks of potatoes for QB’s for the rest of his tenure?

They are not on the beach, but are in a gated community where you can walk there. It's a really cool place. Thanks for the info.

:hi: A lot of gated communities down here. Many have their own trained security that have been deputized by the county sheriff's office. I know more than most want to know about the area since we have spent 3-7 weeks a year from Charleston south to Savannah for a couple decades.

Much better in my opinion. Those are all good. Blowing Rock is special. Have friends there who never plan to leave.

I love the tri-cities.

Played it twice for a total of $49. 😜

Maryville is where I lived for 22 years before just recently moving to Charlotte to start my career. Good town with enough to do and easy access to both Knoxville, I-75 to head South to Chatt, or get to the mountains quickly. However, many people are moving to the area and have been over the past 10 to 15 years so population has definitely grown.

I say stay away from Bristol and Chattanooga but it's about what you want in your retirement

Rush hour in Johnson City usually results in an unbearable 5 minute delay. Nah...that's probably an exaggeration...3 tops. But it's really bad. Seriously.

Unless there's a wreck on I-26 or construction somewhere (but if you know the roads, there's ways around all of it.)
