Thanks to all for providing the insight on ET.
So the summary as I see it:
Sevier County is not good because of crowds (and I would also assume high real estate prices?). Does that apply to the whole county? Except Seymour?
Blount County would be good. Doesn't surprise me. We have our eye on that area. We've camped in Townsend before and liked the area, but that was as visitors. Townsend is Blount County, right?
Tri-Cities is good except Bristol.
Someone mentioned Erwin. How is that area, other than beautiful?
I agree with those who mentioned western NC. We've spent a lot of time there, especially the BRP and surrounding areas, which is one of our favorite places on earth, and Asheville, where our youngest daughter use to live. I almost took a job in Bryson City several years ago, but now I don't think WNC is an option. It seems too expensive to me, probably because of gas prices, state income tax, and house prices we saw in the Bryson City area when we almost moved there.
Thanks again for the info. I still welcome more.
My favorite TN city produnciations:
-Anywhere thats a ville replace with vul.
-Shebvul
-Tellahoma
-Mt. Jewyit
-Lebnun
-Still not sure about Pall Mall
-Murfurburur
-Memph
-Jonesburr
-Covindon
-Murvul
-Sweetwata
-Lobulvul
We have lived there since '98.

Sevier County is not good because of crowds (and I would also assume high real estate prices?). Does that apply to the whole county? Except Seymour? More rural areas in the county are reasonable on prices. Your downside is that to go to town you go where the tourists are unless you live in Seymour. The studies indicate about 20 mill people a year visit Sevier County in tourism. Seymour is the pick for stable real estate prices with good proximity to Knoxville and the tourist stomping grounds since it's about at the halfway point. Property taxes are the lowest in the state in Sevier County.
Blount County would be good. Doesn't surprise me. We have our eye on that area. We've camped in Townsend before and liked the area, but that was as visitors. Townsend is Blount County, right? Yes. Just a good place to be. Easy access to Knoxville and can get to Sevier County through Wears Valley, a very scenic area.
Tri-Cities is good except Bristol. Based on past observations - yes.

When we moved here there was nothing but French's Market and Sevier County Bank branch at 441/411/Boyd's Creek intersection. Rolled the streets up after 7 PM except on Friday nights in the fall. DOT average daily traffic count 1985 was around 10-11,000. Now it is 29-30,000.
Off topic, but this wont go far...
If you have 15 minutes to burn, read up on Malaysias election yesterday. I lived there for 6 1/2 years. Whats happened is so bizarre and remarkable.
After 62 years in power, the corrupt ruling party has finally lost an election in spite of once again attempting to rig the results. The challenger from 4 years ago was imprisoned for the second time in an attempt to keep the party down.
Against all odds, the former prime minister of 22 years... now 92 years old... who also imprisoned the same guy 20 years ago, breaks away from that ruling party, joins the opposition and runs against the corrupt PM he mentored. He actually won! Now, he will seek a pardon for the imprisoned political leader and make him PM in two years.
There is so much more in the history of this... $700 million embezzlement, an affair and murder coverup... no one does an election like Malaysia
Check out BBC and follow the breadcrumbs as far as you please
Love it when corruption loses

The electoral committee ordered the opposition party to disband on some technicality, the media is state controlled too.
The ruling party began to redraw the boundaries of voting districts to assure they would win more districts.
None of the pundits saw this coming. Truly an uprising of the people
The 6-foot-9, 315-pound Swaby said earlier this week that he had been in contact with the Vols over the past couple of weeks, and while they had yet to officially extend a scholarship offer to him, they were "super excited to get me on campus" this weekend.
But he said first-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt's staff reached out to him Wednesday and called off the visit.
"They called me this morning to let me know they found another guy that was gonna go there for sure," Swaby said, "and expressed how sorry they were about everything."
Swaby said earlier this week that the Vols were one of four teams on his "top list" of choices, along with Houston, Ole Miss and Oklahoma. He said he had scheduled an official visit to Ole Miss for June 1-3, and he has talked with Oklahoma about a possible official visit the weekend of May 18.
ReVolution in Malaysia!
