may just be how one defines aggressive/conservative.
:dunno:
i hear 'aggressive' and i start to think about the 'fun and gun' or 'air raid' type offenses. i don't think it'll be like that. if that's not what you mean, then we're probably on the same page.

i also don't think this will be a two TE, 1 WR, FB, TB set type offense either.

and we really don't know how either QB is really gonna be yet, and that will determine a lot.

i do think this offense is going to have to be productive in the passing game to ultimately do what it wants to do.

I actually think there will be elements of all of it. I do think it will be based on power running with some I formation and a lot of 2 TE sets. But out of that it seems like there will be a lot of downfield playaction, RPO, maybe some spread concepts, air raid sprinkled in. Under center, in the gun or even pistol. I don't think you are really saying as conservative as some in hear but there was a 3.3 yards and a cloud of dust comment from somebody and a bunch of people implying it will be super conservative. And I think it would go against all of the offensive coaches natural inclinations to run that conservative of an offense. We probably aren't to far off in expectations but I probably expect it to be a little more aggressive than you do.

I mean I guess every coach would have that philosophy. No coach wants turnovers. But I think we're assuming this will be an overly conservative offense and I really don't think that will be the case. I already mentioned Helton and Joe O not being conservative. Will Friend was the OC at CSU and they had a very explosive offense (11th in the nation last year). David Johnson came from a very explosive offense at Memphis. Hard to tell with Niedermeyer and Weinke but I don't think Weinke won the Heisman being conservative in nature. I'm just saying if you follow the money of who he hired, it doesn't appear he wants a conservative offense.

Missing a big point that helps your case. Look at the mentality of Pruitt himself. He has an aggressive personality. He attacks on defense and his mentality will encompass this team.

I expect us to attack on defense. Play physical on offense and attack the weakness on their D and only play safe when game is in hand.

Pruitt seems to have the win now mindset. If I had to guess he's not thinking about redshirting guys who can contribute. RB by committee is likely what we see this fall. Pruitt's going to need 4+ RB's to get through the season.

agreed, i mean he even said it last week...it'll be by committee. i'd expect to see at least all 4 of the guys mentioned here get playing time. and i wouldn't be shocked to see Fant get a crack or two at some point during the season.

Also if he's good enough to make it to the league he won't stay past his 3rd year regardless of redshirt. RB shelf life is too short to stay in college.

We could just kick Missouri and A&M back to big 12 and then play an 11 game SEC schedule. Everyone plays everyone and the two best play for it all.

Having all in one division but still playing different opponents still doesn’t work.

Having one division means you can rotate more teams to reduce the number of years between playing teams in the west which was the original point.

Ha, I was saving some points in case the debate kept going. But yeah that is another reason for my expectations of the offense.

that's fair, and yeah, i don't disagree with anything you've posted here. it makes sense.

i probably didn't do a good job of explaining myself early on.

but no, it won't be 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

most of my point really goes to situational football. to me, those are the moments in games when you find out about aggressive/conservative nature/philosophy.

for example, UF game in 2015, i would tell you they were very aggressive throughout the game, especially early on.

but with each situation that presented itself as the game went on, to either extend the lead or put the game away, they crawled in to their shell and let their true colors shine, on both sides of the ball.

i think this staff will be opposite of that. you put yourself in position to win a game, and you get opportunities to put it away, extend the lead etc....i think this staff jumps all over those opportunities, and will be more "aggressive" in those situations.

Yeah I agree with that.

Keeping rivals. I'd like to play bama, fl, ga, vandy at the very least every year. Maybe even ky.

I hear ya and must’ve missed points by others but I just don’t like the fact that the schedule isn’t created equal for all. I wouldn’t mind if every team played each other every year and OOC games reduced to 1.

Issue is that it would hurt small schools tremendously.

:eek:lol: and to be fair, we got started on this with Bass's comment that we need to 'take risks' offensively....not necessarily 'not be aggressive'...:p

I expect us to blitz the shi$ out of WV... I think Grier becomes a different QB with pressure...

Haha right. I blame bass.

Yeah I don't see Banks being redshirted.

I actually could see that especially with the new rule. London, chandler, Jordan, and Coleman are more than serviceable. Get banks in the game some but give him a full year of weight training to lean up some and he’s probably your bell cow next year.
