Nah, QBs never get any better with experience and coaching. Drew Lock is the same today as he was as a freshman, right?

Improving as a passer and having instincts inside the pocket are two very different skills.

My hot take of the week. Kentucky beats Georgia to get in the driver's seat in the East and then we beat them in Knoxville. I think that if they win Saturday, they would have to lose two to lose the East, but I would really like for them to come in riding high and we smack them right back down to where they belong.

That’s a good point.

JG is good - and it seems like he’s coming around on the leadership aspect.

Also, he’s tough as nails. Any other QB would have missed a game or two by now. He’s not just taking hits - he gets destroyed all the time. And stands in there to make the throw.

Sure, he holds the ball too long occasionally. That’s irritating. But on balance he’s still got all the tools to be a top SEC QB for the next two seasons.

Fulmer was fine without him. I think people forget he was one of the most highly regarded coordinators in the country before he became head coach. Yeah Cutcliffe was great but he didn't make Fulmer.

Uh, he got fired without him. The main reason was Hamilton but the fact that our offense was horrendous in 2008 did not help.

I hope you’re right that they beat UGA because I am convinced we’re going to beat them regardless.

They are one dimensional on offense and we can move the ball on their defense with our passing game. We’re going to win.

I just don't think being tough is good enough to get this team where we want to be by year 3 of the Pruitt era. Does he have heart and a never quit attitude? Absolutely. The thing that kills me though is his absolute inability to hit a receiver in stride on any pass over 10 yards. Go back and look at every completion he has this year over 15 yards. he underthrows them every time, and they have to come back and get it. I don't think that is something that he's going to magically be able to do next season. jmo. obviously the coaches are all in on him at this point and i hope he does well, but i just look at him with an 8 win ceiling here at Tennessee. Hopefully Mauer or Shrout can come in and really pan out for us.

He’s not perfect. Those are valid points.

However, some things I’d like to point out. We can all agree the offensive line has been a hindrance to him so far this year. And we can all agree the offense has not been designed to accentuate his strengths. It has gotten better recently, but on the whole it has still not done him any favors. We’ve also played 5 very good defenses in Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and West Virginia.

Given all that, he’s still #4 in passing yards per attempt and passing efficiency in the SEC.
