I expect the OL to noticeably improve with the added year of development and certainly a strong group of freshman. The key to me is the defensive front 7...they've got to find some guys who create chaos and make plays. Being "solid" isn't enough...they need some defensive playmakers creating sacks and turnovers. The secondary will be good but they can only do so much without significant impact from not just the DL but also the LBs. UT got a little of this from Taylor and Phillips on occasion, but the LBs made very few plays.
Yeah, we need Peterson to be what we all hope he is next year. If Pappoe can contribute early that would be awesome also

We had the worst line I’ve ever seen this year, learning a completely new system, and we still won 5 games. We’re injecting three very highly rated guys and allowing the guys we retain another year of strength training and scheme development. It’s not crazy to think that, if a coaching staff is worth its salt, they should win two more games in their second year.

If we don’t then we’re in trouble.
I value good coaching, but these guys aren't alchemists, and the freshmen will be freshmen and all that it implies. Sprinkling a couple here and there on a good solid veteran group can get you a good team, but we don't have a good solid veteran group...we have zilch on that front.

I disagree. He has regressed but he looked like the next star his freshman year before he lost Jimbo and randy, probably the best pair of QB coaches in CFB. He has all kinds of talent and would be a 2 year Grad transfer i think.
Does this really have legs? I feel if they want to build around jg they might take him over hurts but if they want competition, I think they would take hurts over him.

You keep mentioning freshmen. Which freshmen do you expect to start on the OL other than Wanya?

Freeze 2 game suspension ends after today. So it could be announced today and signed tomorrow. I’d expect reports to begin trickling our later this am.

His 2 game suspension was only as a head coach. He could have coached immediately as an assistant. Obviously, the SEC office had something to do with it.

Here’s the thing: I don’t think 7 wins is a good year. I don’t think you have to be a good team to win 7 games.

I’m not making some astronomical prediction by suggesting a coaching staff should have a two game improvement from year 1 to year 2.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. But it came from Brice so I took it as gospel. Lol. Either way, he’s free and clear after today. 👊🏼

I don’t think so. OL should be much improved if for no other reason they won’t be the smallest OL in the country anymore.

I’m holding out hope for the DL. Lot of freshman got some quality experience and they redshirted Emerson. Those young guys who played looked good. DT improved a lot this year and he’s coming back also. Add the juco guys and hopefully a stud freshman like Eboigbe and I think our DL can be much improved next year.

I believe in this staff to develop players.
i think it's safe to say while we hsould have better #'s on the O line and an infustion of young talent, but future of Trey smith is very uncertain...it's just hard to say how much they improve....i expect they will with another off season as well. but it's a question mark, until it's not.....you can't "count on it" is all im saying.

the DL, we will have good #'s, but aside from Gooden, we really don't know what we have quality wise. and we don't know what, if anything, changes at that position with the incoming class. so it's an unkown as well.

i'm optimistic next year is better as well. but we don't have any sure things on the line of scrimmage yet. and until we do, it's almost impossible to pick wins and losses on the schedule, except for the extremes...cupcake ooc and the big 3 conf games.
the other 5 or 6 games could go either way.

Someone in the FF posted that Taylor Zarzour Ana Greg McElroy we’re talking on their show this am on ESPNU that Freeze was a done deal. They were just waiting on SEC approval. Any else hear it?

Yes, Taylor Zarzour said it around 7:50 when I was on my way into the office. Got here thinking it would be all over the interwebs, but haven't heard it anywhere else. I'm wondering if he got duped by the fake Jimmy Hyams account on Twitter that Tim Brando retweeted/responded to.

Vandy could nosedive next year.
Vandy, MSU, Mizzou and UK all lose significant parts of their teams. to some degree, they're coming back to the pack. that should even the playing field for us. this year the range was 5-7 wins depending on how somethings shake out.

i look at next year and say that range moves to 7-9 wins, depending on how somethings shake out.

All of that’s fair. I’m not saying that our OL is suddenly going to be Bamas. But I am saying that they won’t be 280 pounds anymore across the board. That’s significant improvement right there if nothing else. They should be able to get some push if for no other reason than that they’re bigger and stronger after two years with Fitz.

On the DL, it isn’t like we had guys that are difficult to upgrade over. Gooden will be better next year than anyone we had this year imo. Young guys got good experience this year and let them develop under this staff for another year and it isn’t hard to expect to be improved at that position. Again, not saying elite, but improved.

Ok..I'll go along with that I guess.

2019 if JG is our QB 6 wins is the ceiling.

If we get Hurts or another grad transfer who starts or Shrout comes on strong enough to usurp JG...7-8 wins.
Not sure if 6 is the ceiling, should’ve had 6 this year if USC punts any in the second half.

I’d say 8 tops, easier schedule in 2019

there's going to be an infusion of young talent at LB and OL.

but they're going to be young. and that comes with it's own set of growing pains.

it's going to be hard for us, especially if it's Wright AND Morris, but as talented as they are, they're freshmen OL/OT in the SEC.

there will be growing pains, they will struggle against good defensive lines that are older and more experienced.

we will have to resist the urge to call them busts if they don't come out and play like Jr's and Sr's.
