Mel is from Ohio, played at Wisconsin, and has coached all over the country. He’s got more than his southern connections.Maryland hiring Locksley would be yet another blunder for that program, but if that happens, we probably get whichever of Enos or Freeze that Saban doesn’t pick and I’m good with that either way.
Glad to hear Tucker is leaving for CU, but I tend to think Mason would have been a better choice. Mason has lots of ties to the recruiting base for Colorado, has HC experience, and Tucker isn’t going to get many of his Southern connection recruits to come out to a place where it snows 4-5 inches at a time in April.
Why start this? He’s not making a lateral move.
I think it was really, really close. Which is why, if you remember, all those meetings in New York took a long time.I wonder how he’d done here. He seems to be a great coach and recruiter. Wonder what separated Pruitt from him in Fulmers eyes? Anyway...
Pruitt and Sherrer were roommates and played together in college, not worried about him going back to GA.To not even discuss it would be naive.
First of all Sherrer isn't a play calling D.C. He is a CO-DC which appears to me to only be position with a title.
Now the question is would Kirby give him more responsibility. We know for sure he might upgrade from the CO-DC title which helps in advancement up the coaching ladder
So it Is just being a homer to think it isn't even worth bringing up.
And probably a better plan as far as the staff was concerned. That was a big deal to FulmerI think it was really, really close. Which is why, if you remember, all those meetings in New York took a long time.
Ultimately I think Pruitt had a slightly better resumé and had more support from our money guys.

Pruitt: I want to run between the tackles out of the I to open the pass on offense and play man coverage with a 3-4 front on defense. And probably a better plan as far as the staff was concerned. That was a big deal to Fulmer
And he worked under Kirby so he knows exactly how hands on he is...however much that is. Informed decision.
We have no knowledge of how hands-on Smart is tho. If he’s heavily involved, it’d be a lateral move. Don’t get hung up on the “co” thing. That was more of the lure for Rumph. Sherrer is more involved in defensive gameplans. Rumph is a better talker than anyone on the staff.Agreed. It's possible he thought he would have more responsibility under Pruitt and knows Smartt would offer that
It's also possible he's happy as can be working under Pruitt and wouldn't consider that move.
But to say it's just a lateral move isn't accurate
