I could only find 247 written evaluations on 6 of our defensive linemen so I made a depth chart with just those guys.

Idk, there hasn’t seemed to be any positivities buzz concerning Emerson since he’s been on campus. Seems like we’ve heard more about Mincey and Harris than him.Think Emerson has the best shot to start other than Solomon (if cleared). 2nd year in S&C and at least one full spring session. Gooden also seems like a starter.
DL depth is gonna be scary, IMO.I could only find 247 written evaluations on 6 of our defensive linemen so I made a depth chart with just those guys.

IIRC, Barnett never practiced for us in the spring because of injuries. We heard buzz about him in camp as a freshman, though.Usually with linemen the guys that normally are "locked in" don't hear much about. How often did you hear about Barnett in spring ball after his freshman year?
I could be wrong of course. I just don't think too many of the new guys (except Solomon and maybe Savion) are going to be able to beat out other guys already here to start. I do however think that the d-line will have a larger rotation this season.
Ja'Quain Blakely R-Jr.DL depth is gonna be scary, IMO.

Scary good, or scary bad? I am optimistic that the DL will be servicible. As long as we play complimentary football, and the O can sustain drives and not go 3 and out multiple times, back to back during the game, we should be fine. Right now, the strength of this team will be the back 7. Whatever plays the DL makes is a win win. But the LB's and Secondary will be good.
So the other guys that these coaches recruited are garbage? Just because a player is not rated highly by a pay service does not mean that they can not contribute. There will be a big improvement from last year. And as I said, the strength of the defense will be the back end.Only 1 of those guys has played significant snaps for us. It will take Solomon's waiver, and our JUCO guys coming in ready to make this unit serviceable.
You’re right. I should have said quality of depth will be scary. We do have plenty of bodies. Nobody who’s started a game, though. Solomon and Gooden have both flashed as rotational players, at least.Ja'Quain Blakely R-Jr.

Scary good, or scary bad? I am optimistic that the DL will be serviceable. Plus we have 3 more coming in that are not listed. I’ve repeated myself on this plenty, so I’ll just leave it at this:
I think if Solomon is eligible and Williams shows up ready to go that we should be able to put a solid starting unit together. But I don’t think we’ll have much quality depth behind those guys and worry that they might wear down towards the end of the season because we won’t have many guys to work into the rotation.
So the other guys that these coaches recruited are garbage? Just because a player is not rated highly by a pay service does not mean that they can not contribute. There will be a big improvement from last year. And as I said, the strength of the defense will be the back end.
MoCo, I thought Lockwood had been there quite a few years. Wasn’t calling you out. I’m wondering if the problem is Holly’s coaching or her loyalty to her assistants that’s getting in her way. Honestly, I have no idea but am leaning towards loyalty. When Holly became the HC Dean Lockwood & Sharrona Reaves were hired. Neither one of them had worked under or played under Pat Summit prior to Holly hiring them they had no direct connection to the Lady Vols.
Actually that's not accurate...about Dean he's been on staff since 2004 according to his bio...but wasn't on staff during Pat's last season? I don't know that's odd.
Sorry, only Sharrona Reaves has no previous ties.
Did read that Kingston played in 4 games last year. So that's good. I assume it was at DT.IIRC, Barnett never practiced for us in the spring because of injuries. We heard buzz about him in camp as a freshman, though.
Usually the complaint about VQ and/or 247 is that they over-hype how much the staff likes certain guys or how they’ve done in S&C over the offseason and whatnot. If they hear something positive about a guy, they usually pass it on. There hasn’t been much positive about anybody on the DL thus far besides maybe Solomon. If Pruitt continues to be very hands on with the DL, we’ll know they’re worried about that spot IMO.
As for Emerson, it just seems like he hasn’t shown much this far or we’d have heard something indicating that by now. Kingston Harris has bounced around between OL and DL a bit now and has gotten more buzz than Emerson this far.
Granted that’s all speculation based mostly off of various podcasts about the team thus far and we are only 1/3 of the way through spring. With some guys you never know when the light switch will flip on. Would be nice if it does for Emerson and Butler soon. Both of those guys look the part physically and we need more depth badly.
Hot take is hot.
