Here’s the thing about making an in season switch to Phil. Our coordinators are great. When a 3rd and 4th coordinator isn’t working I am looking at Pruitt. Phil handles the overall team and coordinators call the shots. It could work. Would much rather Pruitt turn it around but if Saturday was any indicator, I say keep all options on the table.
I get the feeling Fulmer might not insert himself as HC but as an assistant and let Chaney be interim HC.

Yeah I think this might be right.

Then the sunshine pumpers come back like everything is fine, we look like ass against UTC then get skulldragged in the Swamp.
I agree with your second paragraph, but I do think we win comfortably on Saturday. 38-17 type win.

Regardless, there is something rotten with the program and our coaching, and it has gotten worse since last year.

Heard from a couple people that some money guys are pumping up Chaney behind the scenes. Said he was brought in help Pruitt navigate through the first year head coach pitfalls and he will be the guy they turn to first if the nightmare scenario happens and Pruitt can’t get it done.

They didn’t pay him all that money for nothing.

Edited for clarity

No you didn’t

I’m not Fulmer’s biggest fan as a HC, but I respect him and think he genuinely has the best interest of the program at heart. I think we’d be better off if he were to step in as HC than as an assistant. Certainly better off than with Pruitt at the helm.

WTF. Was Pruitt not vetted at all? What's wrong with him? If he was brought in to save Pruitt there must have been tremendous smoke behind the scenes very early on that he sucks.

What is it about UT that makes coaches literally forget how to coach overnight? I don’t get it. It’s like it’s by design or something.
True that.
And what is it with our freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and transfer quarterbacks that once they get to Knoxville our coaching staff says they aren’t good anymore.

I'm not saying you are fos, but whoever told you this was either filling you with BS or someone filed them with it.

Okay brother.

Doesn’t mean it happens. People are pissed and probably venting.

I didn’t post that to say a change WILL be made. Just that some unhappy people are throwing Chaney around as the adult in the room IF things go the nightmare scenario route of like 1-7 to start.

What do you ultimately see happening this week

Pruitt is safe for now. I can’t say that for the rest of the coaching staff. If not for their personal relationship, Will Friend wouldn’t be here. And people close to Pruitt are telling him not to let loyalty to assistants be their downfall. Barring major improvements, atsome point in the next year, Friend and Rocker will probably be gone. The oline juggling was a joke. Hence the removal of the “or” from the week 2 depth chart.

If Pruitt doesn't work it absolutely has to be an experienced coach. Look at Mack Brown at NC and Les Miles at Kansas. Surely we could steal Miles away! I don't know. I hope we don't have to fire Pruitt. I really wanted him to be the guy.

If I remember correctly, Miles absolutely wanted this job. Was even asking for less money.

The best thing UT fans can do is put a lid on it until next Saturday, then fill the stadium and support the hell out of this team. Give people who're paid a lot of money the chance to address issues and fix problems and see what they can do. Trashing the AD, UT admin and the university, hating on players, calling for heads to roll and fans to empty Neyland does nothing to help and much to hurt.

Recruits are reading and hearing all of this. It's bad enough-- no gain in making it worse.

Rocker and Friend better be gone*

I think they saw some issues with him being a first time HC and justified spending the money on chaney to really help him figure it out and to make sure he didn’t have to spend a ton of time on the offense.
