I'm not mad anymore I'm just sad
I'm still mad and sad.
I’m not a JG hater or least I haven’t been. Last year, somewhere back near the beginning of this thread, I said he needed to be more like Darth Vader. I’ve often thought though I don’t recall posting that he was a quarterback trying to play football rather than a football player trying to play quarterback. I think there’s a huge mental difference. I’m not saying he doesn’t get it but he may not and if he doesn’t I doubt that can ever be fixed. Even with that said, he still may be the best we have. I also think his parents spoiled him to some extent. jmo.
I’m not sure Jeremy Pruitt is all that much of a football coach. I know he’s not much as a head coach. He built a resume by riding Saban and Fisher’s coattails, and to some extent Richt’s, but I don’t think he’s cut out to handle something like this on his own. I thought he screwed up from game 1 last year with the coaching seminar during the hour plus delay of the West Virginia game and there are so many mistakes he’s made since. There are countless mistakes he has yet to make and the bad thing about that is I don’t think he learns from his mistakes. He’s learned to say the right things but I don’t think he gets it. The thing that is foreign to him is understanding the role and concepts associated with being a head coach. I don’t know if I would ever trust him again. jmo.
I can’t and don’t want to quit Tennessee football but I’m not sure I care whether we win or lose this week. I don’t care about recruiting, not right now. It’s not that important. Until we fix our coaching problem nothing else matters or it won’t matter. That’s where I’m at. I think we could win a game or two here and there but I’m not sure it would matter in the long run.
Jeremy Pruitt by all accounts came into this season expecting a big jump from his year 1 to his year 2. Last year many thought he lost his team. These kids have been playing football for a while. Jeremy, with all his narcissism, did not invent the game. He just led his players to perhaps the most embarrassing humiliation probably of their entire experience with the game, at least for most of them. That’s going to be with them for the rest of their lives. Did you really think negative recruiting couldn’t get any worse?
I’m not sure he’ll make it through the full season this year. I’m guessing he’s asked for 4 or 5 games to prove he can handle the job. He’s definitely the underdog right now. The thing about coaching at one of the big six schools in the SEC, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee (and maybe Texas A&M now) if you’re the head coach and you aren’t winning your ass will be on the hot seat. It’s a fact of life in the SEC for those schools. We’re not Vandy or Kentucky or Missouri or any of the others. We’re Tennessee. At least for the moment we still believe we are. You can’t get away with that here, not with most of our fanbase. It will be interesting to see if he can handle that and still function at the level necessary. Some guys can; some guys can’t. Those that do survive for a little longer. Those that don’t end up as interns, or tight ends coaches, or TV commentators, or take a gig coaching Central Michigan or some such.
I appreciate VolNation and the variety of perspectives shared here. I don’t put people on ignore, no matter how many times I cuss the computer screen. The only thing I would change is I would like for Freak to figure out some way to serve alcohol and/or maybe weed in the forum. It could be restricted to this thread so as to keep the football forum family friendly. I think that would be a really good project for his next upgrade. jmo.
