Bryce Young update timeline entering Tennessee game

Oct. 1: Arkansas postgame news conference

“Bryce has a little AC sprain in his shoulder. We’ll have to take it day-to-day. I think he’s OK. He doesn’t have a serious injury. We didn’t think he could go back in the game because I don’t think he had much steam on throwing the ball. He’s had these before and in a few days, he starts to respond pretty well. We’ll have to see how it goes.”

Oct. 3: Monday news conference after Arkansas

“He’s got a little bit of a shoulder injury. It’s not a long-term kind of injury. He’s going to be day to day. When he can get back to throwing … we’ll just have to evaluate it day to day. So I can’t tell you if that’s today, tomorrow or the next day.”

Oct. 5: SEC teleconference before Texas A&M

“I’m sure that everybody wants an update on Bryce, so I’m going to give it to you. He’s doing some things in practice and he’s still listed as ‘day-to-day.’ No decision is going to be made until he decides, and we decide, from a medical staff standpoint, whether he can go out there and functionally do his job.”

Oct. 6: Nick Saban radio show

“There’s no real bad damage or anything like that so it’s not a long-term thing,” Saban said. “But he still has some soreness, and we’ll have to make a game-time decision before the game in pregame to see if he can throw the ball well enough to go out there and do his job. So he has been able to practice some.

“Bryce is a great competitor. He’ll want to go out there and play the best he can but sometimes you have to protect players from themselves because they’ve got to be able to go out and create value for themselves and be healthy enough to do it the right way. He’s a sharp guy. He’ll know whether he’ll be able to go out there and do it.”

“This really and truly will be a pregame decision,” Saban said, “because the way we’ve treated this is overuse would really set him back so the longer we could go without him throwing, the better off we are in terms of the healing process.”

Oct. 8: Texas A&M postgame news conference

“And there’s no question that Bryce is a great competitor, he wants what’s best for the team, he was very supportive -- he’s been very supportive all week of helping Jalen every way that he can -- but he also wants to play. And he actually wanted to play at the end of the game.”

Oct. 10: Monday news conference entering Tennessee week

“Bryce is getting reevaluated today. I don’t really know much. I haven’t talked to Doc since he did that. Hopefully we’re going to try to get him ready to play this week, but this is something that, you know, nobody can predict how quickly this is going to give him an opportunity to go out and be able to do what he needs to do. And we’ll see as the week progresses, but I don’t have an update much more than that.”

Oct. 12: SEC teleconference

“There’s nothing really new to tell you. He’s making progress. He’s been able to practice some and we’ll continue to evaluate him as the week progresses.”

On Young wanting to enter the Texas A&M game late …

“I didn’t think he was in a position where he could go and effectively do his job the way he’s capable of doing it,” Saban said. “He’s made a lot of progress from that point so hopefully that will change here in the near future.”

Oct. 12: Post-practice news conference

“Bryce continues to practice a little bit more. We’ve got him on a little bit of a pitch count just to ween him back into it and see how it goes. We expect him to do even a little more tomorrow. That’s all I really have to say about that.”

Reading the tea leaves - I don't think Bryce playing last week was an option. I think at this point it's moving closer to an actual game time decision for our game.

I think that they will play 2 deep safeties, let their corners play man, and depend on their pass rush. They have the athletes to play us man up, and think they have the front 7 to stifle our run or pressure the QB without having to do too much.

I hope that they stack the box though. If their safeties are up we should feast.
I don't think they have the coverage ability to man up our receivers. One of the biggest questions is how much the refs allow their DBs to get away with. They hold ALOT and the Texas game was probably the most I've seen them actually get penalized for it to a degree.

I’ve tried to explain to my wife where I will be emotionally on Saturday. It still doesn’t make sense to her, but she has planned to take the youngest kids to a friend’s house for a play date. It will just be me and my oldest son. No matter what happens, this will be something we both remember forever. No matter what happens, he will definitely see me cry.

I'm honestly kind of torn. If Young plays, he's not gonna be 100%, plus he's a reluctant runner when he's healthy. If Millroe plays, the passing game is definitely hurt but he's a much bigger run threat.
I'm not torn at all. Give Millroe the the same leash that we've given other mobile QBs and let's have a dang old shootout

we'll have to prove we can run it effectively before they'll bring their safeties up. and even then, i think they'd rather us run it, even if it's successful-ish, if for no other reason, keep the clock running and shorten the game. they may decide they're going 2 deep, you're not beating us down field, and see if we can beat them with "death by a1000 cuts", vs. bullet to the head....lol.

i'll be surprised if they bring extra guys in run support. spy the QB...yeah. but i don't see a lot of 7-8 man fronts. we'll eat them alive down field if they do.

If they are walking safeties down, we've either proven that we can't get open and they are trying to step on our throat or we are smashing their guts in the gaps and ripping edge runs, which means we are throwing vertical every 3 plays and playing Rocky Top. They aren't going to do anything special to try and stop the run, they will try and stop the run game with 5 or 6 at most.

Brett Mcmurphy on Sirius said he has no inside info but from reading the tea leaves and how Saban talks, he believes Bryce will play.

Idk but color me skeptical.

If you head EJ Emanuel just before that, he basically said, hes had that injury on a non throwing arm, and could not lift his arm after a week of icing. Went on to say that BY really has to ask hisself, and those making the call to play, if one game is worth costing him in the draft. No one will remember your shoulder was hurt if you perform badly, theyll remember the turnovers and poor play if you're not 100%. Whoever his co host was, agreed, probably not worth playing if hes not 85% or more.

The only thing I can’t buy from Pate is Ty Simpson playing. Not a damn chance that happens unless Milroe gets hurt
Well Saban knows that with Milroe they can’t pass and our defense will sell out to stop the run.

So he might think Ty actually gives them a better shot. He probably looks like a heisman candidate if he plays 😂

If Ty Simpson is in the game, I would zero blitz over and over and see if he can throw it under duress lol
