I think it is a mixture of two things...they KNOW coming in that our guys are slaw in the backend..AND that they have to make every play count to have a chance to win.Seriously, opposing QBs are playing their best games of the year against us. Part of it is definitely our secondary, but they are also making some incredible individual plays on the other side. Remember that TD pass to tie us against Pittsburgh? That QB and receiver make that play 1 in 100 times, it’s just that those 1 in 100 plays are coming against us.
I guess the other teams feel inspired watching Hooker and our receivers throw it around.
It only scares me because our secondary is absolutely mangled right now (hopefully we get a few back) and UK ripped us last year on offense.
That said, the big big difference is our pass rush is here to stay and Levis is no houdini like BY. I think we sack him 5 times and make him pout. UK will be lucky to gain an inch on the ground. Their OL stinks and we just held the best RB in the country to 4.3 ypc.
I think DC Banks did a nice job of mixing up the coverages. I saw a lot less of the huge cushion zones. We had a few busted assignments but some of the other plays were just due to the caliber of QB that Bryce is and their receivers/TE made some nice contested catches.I think it is a mixture of two things...they KNOW coming in that our guys are slaw in the backend..AND that they have to make every play count to have a chance to win.
I know our secondary is depleted, but for just once could an opposing QB in a big game have one of those days when they can't hit the broadside of a barn, and opposing revievers drop catchable balls over and over instead of making their best-hardest catches of the year against us over and over?
That is getting ridiculous at this point.
Truth...he had a day like Weurfel did in 97(iirc)...We physically beat the absolute hell outta Danny that day..and he just kept standing in throwing dime after dime.I actually thought the DBs played pretty well Saturday. Young is just incredible and made NFL throws. Some times you just have to tip your hat.

The fact that he is nodding confidently when we are down 7 after he just yakked is epic. I can't watch this enough.More steam!View attachment 502485
I've got a huge concern. It involves recruiting. I think one position is going to be extremely difficult to attract highly ranked players. What decent punter will ever want to play for the Vols? They hardly see the field. This could spell trouble for us for years to come.
You can't jump directly over someone. You can jump over their extended leg, which is what he did. Literally no one blocked him, the DL didn't move an inch.I was just watching the last play, the Bama guy that tipped the kick, I thought it was illegal to jump over the line like that? Is that not a rule?

This. Young just made some ridiculous throws on Saturday. The biggest thing for me though is no busts where they just hit us over the top like Hyatt kept doing to them. The defense made them earn everything.I actually thought the DBs played pretty well Saturday. Young is just incredible and made NFL throws. Some times you just have to tip your hat.
Thanks. I was thinking you couldn't out your hands on someone and use then as a lift, but I guess that's just he can't use his teammate.I tried researching it and got a bit confused but I think it was legal. There's a rule about not being able to jump over a player but it seems like there's an exception for players that are stationary at the line of scrimmage when the play starts. He also kind of went between two players rather than directly over them but he actually pushed off of them with is hands to get more lift.
I'm definitely shaky on it. Rules are below.
No defensive player, in an attempt to gain an advantage, may step, jump or stand on an opponent.
It is a foul if a defensive player moves forward and tries to block a field goal or try by leaving his feet and leaping into the plane directly above the frame of the body of an opponent.
It is not a foul if the player was aligned in a stationary position within one yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.
It is a foul if a defensive player who is inside the tackle box tries to block a punt by leaving his feet and leaping into the plane directly above the frame of the body of an opponent.
It is not a foul if the player tries to block the punt by jumping straight up without attempting to leap over the opponent.
It is not a foul if a player leaps through or over the gap between players.
No defensive player, in an attempt to block, bat or catch a kick, may: 1. Step, jump or stand on a teammate. 2. Place a hand(s) on a teammate to get leverage for additional height. 3. Be picked up by a teammate, or be elevated, propelled or pushed.
PENALTY [a-d]—15 yards, previous spot and automatic first down. [S38]
I told all y'all he was a little piece ofWhy wasn’t this a personal foul for unsportsmanlike conduct. Targeting a defenseless player by repeatedly kneeing him in the head. Should have been an ejection.
On this other hand, I am glad that he got to suffer through the entire game. Cannot believe that the announcers didn’t say a word about it, even though it was replayed twice.![]()
