have we improved? Do we really have a legit QB and coaching staff? Then we should not lose to 2 of those 3 games.

Adding to this..I hope JH has better clock management this year..I’ve not seen this stressed yet..he was horrible last year in circumstances that could have gotten us points or prevented some.

I think that’s a very level headed approach. I think this year is Tennesee’s Covid year (vs last year for most teams nationwide). That’s our advantage i think.
I just think it's year 2 with a promising staff and the right pieces are back to give us a real shot at being better than last year.

Been a while since that was the case. Feels like 2015...2016 did. Hope the result is better.

If we go 8-4 we have lost to 2 of FL, LSU, and Pitt, or we’ve dropped a game to a KY or SC too.

losing to KY or SC would be embarrassing. We are far better than both. Adding rattler did not even SC up with us. That game was over after the first quarter last year

why should we lose to 2 of Pitt, Fl, and LSU? I could see LSU because they still have talent and it’s a home game for them. But this is year 1 and they were atrocious last year. This is Fl with a year 1 staff. And Pitt lost everyone who made them good last year.

I don't really disagree. The trepidation is because none of us have seen it work out like that, as expected, in 18 years+. 🤨. 9-3 is definitely doable.

I should clarify. . . I think we should win 8+ games. That's my personal expectations. I will be disappointed @ 7-5, but I won't be mad at the coaching or players, based on it being y2 and coming from where we were a year ago. Y2 was always going to be a 7-5 baseline. How far we exceed that is gonna tell us how good a job Heupel & staff has done. We hit 10 wins this year and we need to payda man big.

Of course I want recruiting to take off. Of course I want to be back to the 90s. Of course I want 9-10 wins and excited it’s a possibility. But we’ve not even seen them play yet! We only have some comments from press and staff.
I have a feeling the idiots are going to go toxic when we don't win 9 this year...this place is going to suck.

A lot of peoples expectations are stupid.

I know man. But I’m hoping Heup isn’t Dooley, Butch, or Pruitt. Those are 3 coaches that had no business at the power 5 level let alone the SEC.

Everyone is discounting that we're still short players and it's only year 2. I think we're capable of winning them all, but realistically, 7-5 would be the base. 8-4, 9-3 is a good year. 10-2 is phenomenal. Anything more is miraculous.

Injuries are key and nobody here counts them into their expectations. I do, but I am one of the only ones. This is a thin roster...just a few injuries at key spots and we are struggling to win 7.

I mean, I just feel like this deserves a.....

Lol...I knew that was coming..

Yeah our O/U is 7.5 wins. Don't see how that is disappponting. Unless a 50/50 (maybe 40/60) possibility is disappointing. But that makes 8-4 surprising?

I'd say 7-5/8-4 are both in "expected" territory.
6-6/9-3 is adjective range.

I'm about as set on 8-4 as any year but 2015. The cool thing is 2015 easily could have surpassed that with a few good bounces. Maybe 2022 will be what 2015 could have been. Fingers crossed.
Everybody always talks about 2016, but honestly, 2015 is the year we should have gone to the playoff or at least won the east. We had double digit leads on Oklahoma, Arkansas and Florida. Lost them all. We were beating Bama in the fourth quarter. Lost. If that team could have finished 2-3 of those games whew

Year 2 doesn't mean much to me because of who we have coming back on offense. My biggest concerns are pretty simple and not new.

Defense. I think it has a chance to be better... Maybe a lot better. But several unproven players will need to step up. While depth I think is better, I can't say yet, that the quality of the depth is great. So how does that play out?

RB depth is the other concern.

I'm excited. I really really really want to get out of September 4/0. Head to baton rouge with a shot at 5-0 with Bama coming to town...

I need that again.

I’d say this year 8-4 is success.

Means we beat South Carolina, Kentucky, Vandy, Ball State, Missouri, UT Martin, Akron, and then one of FL, Pitt, and LSU.
It’s acceptable. It’s not success. Means we aren’t actually better. Probably got a Pitt who lost a lot and that’s the only difference from last year.
