If you wanna see an approximation of what an Ali-Tyson fight would have been like then just go to YT and watch all the Ali-Frazier fights...but you have to keep in mind that was NOT prime Ali.

Tyson could never take the punishment that Joe Frazier did...people forget that aspect of it.

Frazier is who Tyson always reminded me of offensively but Smokin Joe was also an extremely tough sob...he could take a huge amount of punishment.

Tyson couldn’t take punishment? 🤔 sheesh McGill you’re extremely tough on a man who was 5’10 in a heavy weight class fighting against people who were 6 ft and taller with a longer reach than Tyson.that put him at a disadvantage before the fight ever started 🤣 I just can’t let this comment stand uncontested 😅🤣

I posted about my son playing Hockey in the Beer League earlier and low and behold he jjst hit me up for a new hockey stick for his birthday. His birthday his in about 2 months.......it cost $150.00........he's 28............... just because they get older and have a good job, don't think they won't still ask..................I just ordered it.

It never ends...........:D
Did you order it from Acme?

Yeah my dad pushed baseball hard. I started playing 8u travel ball when I had just turned 6. Played fall ball every year as well. Afterbrec league I didn't have any interest in basketball so that was a no go, and I wasn't allowed to play football because I was too small. My mom wanted me to start wrestling earlier but my dad threw a fit, but I had some friends that did it and I brought it up.

I totally understand the cost thing too, I was lucky enough that dad made enough to pay the bills and mom worked part time to cover ball for Mt sister and I. I understand not everyone having that luxury though.

I felt this!..my dad pushed me and I just got extremely burnt out ultimately giving it up right before high school.I regret it now more than ever just because of the experience I missed out on..I’m old though 🤣 when I played impact was still a thing

Mayweather is in my top 2 LEAST favorite boxers. Can't stand watching him. Technically speaking, one of the best, but my word is he boring.
Yeah I don’t care much for the guy. Old school mayweather was a boxer. He just didn’t wanna end up with head trauma. People got hooked on his personality and he took advantage of it.

He could take punishment just fine, what he couldn't take was frustration.

Mayweather was a boxer but the reason he switched to a strictly defensive fighter aint because of a smart decision. His hands are brittle and started breaking down.

Early 1900s? Wow. Not even sure who was the best back then. Jack Dempsey?

That's wildly interesting, considering the much smaller pool of talent, even nationally, racially, and merely with population levels. Mid 1900s I can see a bit more, but still...is he accounting for the absurd level of avancements in sports science, athletic conditioning, training etc?

My absolute guess is he falls back on mental and generational toughness. Just a guess. He puts a lot into cultural and generational mentalities and their outputs, though he admits they're tough to quantify as well.

I've listened to about 3 hours of his Celtic podcast and respect his level of thought, so I'm sure he has accounted for those things before I even ask the question. I'll definitely have to check that out. Thanks.

Just the volume of fights that guys like Demsey and others who I've never heard of made them more conditioned, polished and hard.

Here is the youtube link. It's an easy hour to listen to.

I say this tentatively because a man like Liston could've killed me with one punch and had a wretched life of pain and sorrow, but Liston's only weakness was heart. he had a good chin, could pulverize bone, could cut the ring off, stronger than big George, was close to perfect fundamentally, had great gameplans and could scare a crocodile. But if he was discouraged he was apt to just rollover.
“He was the only man I ever faced who could force me backwards."

If Buster freaking Douglas could beat Glass Mikes ass like a drum...how in the hell do people think he could contend with The Greatest in his ass whuppin prime?
The debate has been "at their prime". Mike Tyson was no longer in his prime by Buster Douglas. Outside influences had ruined him. He lost Cus, he split with Rooney, fell in with King and Givens.... Who knows what else he was into? That was not prime Mike Tyson.
