I ventured over to the other "forum" to see what the thoughts were about Jalin's decision. For the most part, they were overwhelmingly positive (kind of a surprise, actually). And, then there were these gems.

I see nothing but positives regarding Jalin opting out of this game and it starts with the fact that he's turning pro and so is Tillman. Heupel inherited a team that was replacing Jennings and company and while most only remember Milton over throwing people. Hooker was overthrowing everyone too (he was just overthrowing them by less because he doesn't have an actual rocket launcher capable of delivering a Rover to Mars for an arm). And that had a ton to do with our WRs, including Hyatt and Tillman having a rough transition. To the point that I thought we were going to have to hit the portal hard until Payton and Tillman finally started to click.

As this season wore on Hyatt was being used less and less and it was likely for two reasons - 1. to protect his body and 2. to get Squirrel and the other WRs more reps for next season. Since Hyatt is turning pro and we have lost our QB for the season, there's no real point in Hyatt risking things. Our future starts with Milton and Squirrel next season and our coaches and players know that. Hyatt is getting out of the way and letting that happen. Milton needs to throw to his guys and his guys need the reps catching from him.

Of course, we could use Hyatt but if he isn't going to be here next season, now is the time to get our younger guys big game reps. And having this game under their belts will pay ginormous dividends for the younger guys heading into next season. It's on them. Hyatt has done far too much that has been right by fans for anyone to be crapping on him now.

Oh well since you're going to haul my comment over here and blast it out as a "gem," why don't you explain what was so bad about what I said? Is Hyatt sitting out the bowl game not a blow to Tennessee's chances in a big statement opportunity? Is that somehow the wrong assessment? Is it beneficial for teams to play games with out their starting Biletnikoff-award winning wide receivers? And is the College Football Playoff devaluing bowl games not a major contributor to players opting out when their teams miss the playoffs?

Good grief. It is possible to both understand Hyatt's decision but also acknowledge that it can have negative consequences for Tennessee.
@drvenner - See what you did??! This is why we never go to the FF. Now the RF has cooties, all thanks to your "curiosity".

I thought this morning...watch the Cards fire Kingsbury, and then State hire him. Arnett was likely going to get offered multiple G5s after 2023. Was on some Auburn hotboards, as well. Now he gets to fasttrack his career. Maybe a little soon, but I guess State had to make a quick decision. We will all be interested to see where he goes for OC.

Other than with the playoffs, the other bowl games are more like exhibition practice games. Get the extra practices in and for the players to have a good time.

It's just no biggie to win or lose. We lost last year with some fake officiating and still had a 10 win season the following.
Extra practices for Nico is about all that matters to me. Always fun to see us win, but getting more reps for people who matter next year is the real benefit.
