I hate drop dead rules in travel baseball…. You can be up by a few runs…. Team score one run more than you…. Time limit and you lose without getting to bat in the bottom half of the inning.Texas softball coach took advantage of this rule the other day. His team was ahead after the previous inning, but after the top of the inning his team was behind after he gave up 3 runs. He subbed players, put in pinch runners, called time to talk to his hitters, switched pitchers, did everything he could to delay things. They then hit the drop dead time so the game was called and the score reverted back and his team won.
Zig is a big loss, but any team that pins their hopes on just one player deserves to not make it out of the first round of the March Madness. Let’s see what this team can do going forward.
We heard the same after the first game without Phillips and JJJ…. We will see how it affects us going forward. This team doesn’t have any true superstars so that helps make it easier to compensate for injured players. We looked REALLY good without ZZ on the floor. It makes us longer defensively. Arkansas had a really hard time. I think every team will going forward. It hurts us one way, but it works out in another way. We can overcome it with elite defense.
Analytics has figured out that the strikeout is not the worst AB possible…. It is the ground ball. Look at these stats:Would be interested to see SO ratio.
Teach the knockout blow instead of how to hit. You're gonna have Andruw Jones. Out of 7599 AB's he struck out 1748 times. (per MLB) That seems high to me. What is that? .19%?
You surround good hitters with thumpers.Analytics has figured out that the strikeout is not the worst AB possible…. It is the ground ball. Look at these stats:
Gorman Thomas .244 avg 98 runs 123 rbis league leading 175 SO’s
Andruw Jones .251 avg 34 HRs 104 runs 104 RBI’s 142 SO’s
Tony Gwynn .370 avg 7 hrs 119 runs 54 RBIs 35 SO’s
Both of the 2 strikeout guys accounted for more runs than one of the best pure hitters of all time… he batted 3rd or fourth in the padres lineup as well.
The SEC. Tourney is going to be a blood bath.Man...Auburn blew a huge lead to Bama and lost in OT. Then Vandy beats Kentucky in Rupp on a last second shot and the evening was topped off by LSU blowing a huge lead and losing to Missouri.
Bama clinches the SEC regular season title at 16-1
A&M is 2nd regardless of their next game at 14-3 (they play Bama at home next)
Kentucky drops to 11-6 (but owns tie breaker beating us twice)
Tennessee sits at 11-6
Missouri is now 10-7
Vandy is now 10-7
We need to beat Auburn to secure 4th place and the double bye. If we lose and Missouri wins they'll jump us with the head to head. Vandy we split with so not sure they'd jump us (would depend on tie breakers).
Of course Vandy gets Mississippi State at home and Missouri will host Ole Miss.
Kentucky will finish their season at Arkansas, so if we win and they lose we could still get a 3 seed.
Maybe but analytics has shown that it is better to have all thumpers…. It is why SBs and small ball is not played much at all… I do wish we could go back to the 80’s when SBs was bigger deal although I am teaching my son the same type of swing used in todays game. You surround good hitters with thumpers.
Andruw had the good fortune of playing with two HoFers.
Padres sucked.
