MLB pitchers go every 5th day, so minimum 4 days rest. The Rays one of the most analytical often like to give guys who go long like that a 5th day of rest.I asked a question earlier and missed if anyone gave an answer.
If you have a pitcher go for about 7 innings and throws an average amount of pitches for that time, what is the general thought on how long he should rest?
Skenes for example. How long should he be rested for after playing against us?

What do you think Skenes would say about that? Lets say LSU is up 4-3 in the 7th and UT has a man on 1st and 2nd.Its a lot different doing it with a guy like Matthews and a guy like Skenes whos projected to go 1/1. Skeenes has a future youre costing him millions burning his arm up.

I'm not saying start him. I'm saying use him when/if you need him to save an inning or get 2 out of him.
Exactly. Be careful though, the "ruin his career police are out tonight" because he pitches a couple innings. Funny, though, if Skenes played for UT they'd be like, "How do you not put him in when needed."I’m not disagreeing with him either but I believe if LSU is up in the 6th or 7th he will come close the game.
Look at Kumar Rocker of Vandy.Any coach that risks a players future like that won’t be able to recruit going forward. I could see him going 1 or 2 innings.
I mean say what you want man but I guarantee you all 30 MLB GMs would say hell no to pitching a young stud arm in that manner. And I would never want to risk one of our guys like that.Exactly. Perfect example.Look at Kumar Rocker of Vandy.
Corbin rode him like a rented mule, started him 3x in the CWS. Rocker got drafted, wasn't signed due to elbow concerns, had to go play independent ball for a year, then got re drafted and lost millions. Since then Corbin has lost out on several big arms.
Thanks. That's what I was curious about. How long a pitcher needs to rest on average, after a start.During the season, they go a week between starts. So you may squeeze that down at this time of the year because of the stakes. But for a guy that may go first in next months draft, it would be insane to pitch him before Thursday beyond an inning. MLB pitchers go 4 to 5 days between starts.

Skenes is a grown ass man. Some of you are acting like he'll be put on the mound against his will. Dude is a beast. If he says I'm ready, I say go get these 2 innings for us.I mean say what you want man but I guarantee you all 30 MLB GMs would say hell no to pitching a young stud arm in that manner.
