Last year our secondary was injured most of the preseason…. It’s really hard to improve in season due to practice constraints…. Last year… we needed bodies but next year we have more than enough. We have:
Burrell
Turnage
Hadden
Williams ( does staff feel that he will be a good cb)
Charles CB/S/NB
Matthews
Gibson
conyer

We are pretty deep at corner…. Our veterans are number 2 type corners…. We desperately need a number 1…. Will Dee Williams or a freshman be that guy? No one knows but the staff…. If we can grab a number one type of guy that would be ideal but we don’t need to just add quantity.

whoever we add is better than what we have

This right here. We saw flashes from some guys on the roster and they should be healthy enough to improve in the off season. Add a possible starter in the portal and have one of the incoming recruits play well enough to get in the 2 deep at CB and we will be fine. I am much more worried about LB's.
Linebacker has the potential to be ok as well although if we have a chance to add a top end linebacker…. I hope we are able to get him.

Right now we have:
Mitchell
Beasley
Herring
Perry( suppose to be our most athletic but don’t know what the coaches think of him)
Smith
Telander

I know that we are wanting to go more multiple and use combo safety/linebacker….. I wonder if Jourdan Thomas might fit that role…I hope we can pick up carter and top end veteran linebacker.

We have secondary depth. They either need to coach them up or find players with more talent. Option 3 is finding better coaches on that side of the ball. I have my doubts about Banks. We shall see.

You would think that Dee Williams has the talent, based on his punt returns, but strange that he didn't get much PT with all the injuries we had. Hopefully, he can take a big step this spring.
It’s hard to develop any sort of confidence at all in season due to practice constraints…. He was out through the beginning of the season…. I will wait and see if he makes a huge move having the off season to prove he can do it.

This past season… we were playing safeties at corner and walk ons in key moments… we have should have decent depth this year…. Still need a number one corner from either the portal or a freshman to step under.

That means that we can add guys from the portal but it definitely does not make them better than what we have.

Ummmm that's the coaches job. Clearly didn't do a great job last year. Blame goes to Willie and Banks

You could go pick 6-7 dudes in the portal right now that are better than what we have.

Oh yeah, love that boat.
Those old Gibson and Harbormasters are solid boats. That one looks like it's in really good shape. Thing about those fiberglass hull boats is they don't rust like the old steel hull boats and fiberglass can be repaired. They also can be more affordable than aluminum hull boats. The downside is they are not as stable as aluminum or steel (never, ever, ever² buy a steel hull houseboat). When you step on these boats they tend to rock a bunch. That's also true when they encounter wake. Another issue is they typically put huge engines in these boats so they burn alot of fuel. I saw a refit on one of these one time where they fiberglassed up the transom holes and fabricated transom brackets for a pair of outboards. It worked great and created some additional storage from removing the engines.

Are you considering a purchase? I could call Travis and get the skinny on this boat if you want.

Option 3 for me. We have a coaching problem.

I have looked at a top 25 list and it has 3 CBs list….. I really want Fentrell Cypress but I don’t think he is/would consider us….. the next two on the list is Tony Grimes who struggles on a defense worse than ours. ( I would take him based on potential but not sure what the staff thinks about him). The third CB on the list JQ Hardaway ( a guy I might take a chance on as well) who has barely played in college so far. There is not a lot of quality out there yet, imo

Do you also consider all the JuCos who were success stories at UT, because there have been many?
Oh of course. Just my opinion after being burned by these DL juco players.

But give me all the JUCO skill players like CP, Kamara, and a motivated Tiyon Evans

"The Volunteers rank 212th in 2-point field goal percentage in games involving two Division I teams, according to KenPom." Ouch.

In a perfect Vol world we pick up Cypress, Grimes and Storm Duck for the secondary
That North Carolina defense with Grimes and Duck starting at corner gave up over 30 ppg…. 7 more per game than we gave up…. Cypress would be ideal…. Grimes is worth the risk but he has struggled some….
