I’m trying to get through my first Christmas without my dad after a horrible Thanksgiving. Y’all are not helping with these stories lol….They’re actually wonderful hearing people tell how close they were. Was 10 years this year since my father died in his driveway from what appeared to be a heart attack. Still, without hesitation, I will see something and grab my phone to call him and tell him. Oh how I wish he could see his grandsons and how they are growing!
There was a time in my life, not too long ago, that I would have laughed at the notion that we would have a basketball program so healthy that our fans would be handwringing over a 1-loss top-10 squad with wins over Maryland and Kansas.
Yeah, the team struggles offensively. No, they probably won’t make the Final Four without significant luck (not many can). But all things considered, I’m pleased with how the season is going and where it appears to be heading.
I’m just hoping after all we’ve been through we can stop long enough to appreciate the rose without just focusing on the thorns.Lol! Maybe old at heart.
I actually don’t mind the criticism that much, as it shows how much more we, as a fanbase, expect from our basketball team. I think that’s part of what comes along with a healthy program, in any sport that matters.
But I also believe it’s good to occasionally remind ourselves how far we’ve come, to where we expect to have a perennial top-15 caliber squad.
It’s tough as hell, and no words can ever help.I’m trying to get through my first Christmas without my dad after a horrible Thanksgiving. Y’all are not helping with these stories lol….They’re actually wonderful hearing people tell how close they were.
The thoughts of him getting his hands on a few ints is exhilarating...like when EB was back there and there was always the opportunity to see something awesome happen. It’s hard to develop any sort of confidence at all in season due to practice constraints…. He was out through the beginning of the season…. I will wait and see if he makes a huge move having the off season to prove he can do it.
Concur. So it’s not a simple solution of our players did not perform well enough so replace them all with better players in the portal? Everyone assumes that every player in the portal will fit what the coaches are wanting. Not true. That they are better and will pick up a new system faster than the ones who already have a year or more. Not true. That we have plenty of money to throw at the best players who are trying to get the most money out of their situation. Not true. That we do not have to be concerned with keeping all the recruits who for one reason chose Tennessee because of the chance for early playing time. Not true.
I wish it was as simple as just getting the three best DBs in the portal, but it is not. With previous staffs we would be hearing about 10 or more they’re chasing in hopes of getting 1or 2, and we could be arguing about who we want. Doesn’t appear this staff is going to recruit that way or let it out who they’re after if possible. Not as much fun but hopefully they get the best players possible. Even if it’s not before January so we don’t have to worry about it.
You would think that Dee Williams has the talent, based on his punt returns, but strange that he didn't get much PT with all the injuries we had. Hopefully, he can take a big step this spring.
Bama cooled on him last week now we have. Gotta think this is a direct effect of the portal. Lots of the Analysts were saying these kids need to get in quick or they will lose spots and he may be one of them. Sad that two or three weeks ago he could likely have been a commit to either school now he may fall to South Carolina or worse.
Linebacker is not ok. We saw what our linebackers look like without Banks. And you don’t want to be starting freshmen at MLB.Linebacker has the potential to be ok as well although if we have a chance to add a top end linebacker…. I hope we are able to get him.
Right now we have:
Mitchell
Beasley
Herring
Perry( suppose to be our most athletic but don’t know what the coaches think of him)
Smith
Telander
I know that we are wanting to go more multiple and use combo safety/linebacker….. I wonder if Jourdan Thomas might fit that role…I hope we can pick up carter and top end veteran linebacker.
Same here. Dad passed in January this year so coming up on one year anniversary. Last year I asked dad if he wanted to drive around and look at lights. He said he didn't think he could do it. He said to wait for my brother to be in town and he would try. We decided to do it a couple of days after Christmas. I asked him how we were going to get everyone in a car, said we'd have to take several cars. Dad said we could take the motorhome (he and I went together and bought one). That way he could plug his O² machine in. Then he asked if I could decorate it up with Christmas lights, on the outside. I told him I'd make it happen. So I spent the Saturday after Christmas securing lights to the motorhome. He wanted Christmas music to be blasting on the outside as well but I couldn't make that happen. So all 15 of us drove around looking at lights. He had a blast that night. Really a great memory. I have a video but I don't think I can post it.I’m trying to get through my first Christmas without my dad after a horrible Thanksgiving. I 100% agree…. I’m ok with replacing coaches if JH doesn’t feel someone is doing a good job… our defense had a few really bad games but overall they played pretty well compared to other teams…. I try not to let my emotions get the best of me and look at it logically….Concur.
Coaches just don’t call them up and they sign up…
The puzzle is more complicated, lots of injuries to the secondary, who is available vs how many spots we have (at all positions), biggest needs, impact on other recruits, etc. Timing could be everything depending on the position. Also, many seem to think giving up a pass play is all on the DB’s. Sometimes it’s just the right play call. Often it has been the pass rush. I think that will get better but every fraction of a second in which we force a throw earlier makes the DB’s that much better. We have had to manufacture pressure since Barnett….
That was one game without having much practice time to get a new defensive signal caller ready…. I don’t like Mitchell at all but fully expect Herring to take a huge step forward next year. I would like to add a top of the line linebacker if one is available.Linebacker is not ok. We saw what our linebackers look like without Banks. And you don’t want to be starting freshmen at MLB.
