Won't improve but also won't matter. We'll keep winning
It could/should improve. Just make layups. Also, Phillips is good at getting to the rim, he just needs to slow down a little when he gets there. He'll gain composure with experience. Nkamhoua needs to work the defenders more instead of settling for quick fade-aways. Uros is finally going strong to the basket some this year. His play has improved.

I have looked at a top 25 list and it has 3 CBs list….. I really want Fentrell Cypress but I don’t think he is/would consider us….. the next two on the list is Tony Grimes who struggles on a defense worse than ours. ( I would take him based on potential but not sure what the staff thinks about him). The third CB on the list JQ Hardaway ( a guy I might take a chance on as well) who has barely played in college so far. There is not a lot of quality out there yet, imo
So it’s not a simple solution of our players did not perform well enough so replace them all with better players in the portal? Everyone assumes that every player in the portal will fit what the coaches are wanting. Not true. That they are better and will pick up a new system faster than the ones who already have a year or more. Not true. That we have plenty of money to throw at the best players who are trying to get the most money out of their situation. Not true. That we do not have to be concerned with keeping all the recruits who for one reason chose Tennessee because of the chance for early playing time. Not true.

I wish it was as simple as just getting the three best DBs in the portal, but it is not. With previous staffs we would be hearing about 10 or more they’re chasing in hopes of getting 1or 2, and we could be arguing about who we want. Doesn’t appear this staff is going to recruit that way or let it out who they’re after if possible. Not as much fun but hopefully they get the best players possible. Even if it’s not before January so we don’t have to worry about it.

Losing my dad was the hardest thing I've ever gone through, and I'm still not really through it 6 years later.
I lost my mom 34 years ago. I don't hurt every day, but I am not over it. I have the memories and all the love she infused me with and that has helped so many times through the years.

Option 3 for me. We have a coaching problem.

Zero doubt on that one. Watching the secondary play is like watching death by a thousand cuts. Lining your secondary up 10 yards off the receivers and retreating at the snap without blitzing is not a strategy. Nor is teaching d-backs to never bother to locating the ball when playing the trail technique. The technique is a good one - if you look for the ball when the receiver does. You should get a lot of picks and PBUs. We don't because we do not locate the ball.

If Heup stays with the current staff, pray they sign a couple of transfers who are already well developed and that Banks has enough sense to play them.

Then pray that Mitchell moves on at LB. He's not been even a good pile checker.

Not even a Titans fan and it was maddening…tho my Bears passed REPEATEDLY also. His success contributed to KC’s Director of Player Personnel landing our GM gig imo.

I agree. He had the medical thing hanging over his head, yet, UT showed how to handle it. He just needed time to adjust to the medical protocol. I kept thinking that surely somebody would have enough sense to pick him by the third or fourth round. Nope. Your Bears hired a real pro at GM.

Good analysis. I agree. It has taken this long for Uros to figure out he is 7+ foot tall. Hold the ball high and don't dribble. Phillips and Nkamhoua will just get better and better as they take to the coaching and quit rushing.

There was a time in my life, not too long ago, that I would have laughed at the notion that we would have a basketball program so healthy that our fans would be handwringing over a 1-loss top-10 squad with wins over Maryland and Kansas.

Yeah, the team struggles offensively. No, they probably won’t make the Final Four without significant luck (not many can). But all things considered, I’m pleased with how the season is going and where it appears to be heading.

Phillips is good at getting to the rim so I could see him improving. Mashack has improved a lot with getting to the rim as well and so has uros, I agree. But with ORN I don't see any improvement over this season coming. He is who he is at this point, which is a very passive player who's not gonna back a guy down very often. He'll do it every now and then but that's it. I think Awaka showed a lot of great things yesterday though. Was aggressive and gave us some crucial second chance points since he's such a strong rebounder (put up basically the same stat line as ORN but was far more efficient). So yea I suppose the team could improve as the season goes along. Lots of young guys with good upside

I wish more fans would get this. You always need to recruit to scheme and the techniques taught. Some 5*s will not fit, same with top transfers. You need to count on the coaches to identify the best fits and recruit the best of those - then develop them. Don't just take whoever, whatever. IDC if they tell me who the players are or not.

Hope is not a good strategy at this stage. We are the #6 team in the country. We need to act like it. If any on the staff are dragging the program down, they need to go if Heup can find a good replacement that fits - just like the players. Coaches and their ability to develop will attract good players who fit more than about anything else. They all want to be the best they can be to get to the next level if possible. If that is your top priority in recruiting you will win more battles for guys you want than lose because UT has everything else they and their families could want.

I’ve come to the conclusion it’s just human nature to focus on what needs to be fixed. I’m trying to enjoy the success we’re having without worrying about what I don’t have control over. Does that mean I am old?

Yes. But it appears they are trying to keep as many coaches as possible for at least three years for continuity which we have not had since Fulmer. Those were good days. So I am trying not to worry about who needs fired. I don’t get to decide anyway. And hoping CJH doesn’t let fans decide. That’s a disaster waiting to happen when you get to that point.

Was 10 years this year since my father died in his driveway from what appeared to be a heart attack. Still, without hesitation, I will see something and grab my phone to call him and tell him. Oh how I wish he could see his grandsons and how they are growing!

Lol! Maybe old at heart.

I actually don’t mind the criticism that much, as it shows how much more we, as a fanbase, expect from our basketball team. I think that’s part of what comes along with a healthy program, in any sport that matters.

But I also believe it’s good to occasionally remind ourselves how far we’ve come, to where we expect to have a perennial top-15 caliber squad.

Question for the group - I like video games but don’t watch twitch or streams, is there a guy on the team that streams games? Have a potential opportunity for a guy but need a gamer
haven’t seen any post or advertise their twitch or anything. Surprised by that actually. Tons of NFL players stream regularly
