We should start a thread where it's okay to talk about these kinds of things without people attacking and saying, "You need to calm down!". It seems to me, they're the ones panicking because we are talking about it.

You need to be the one to start it tho. We saw what happened last time I started a thread.

If I were to second guess our coaches on any one thing, it would be their tendency to TRUST their starters too much…specially at defensive back…particularly at safety. Walker was our best safety at the end of the season and I find it hard to believe he wasn’t ALL season.

To piggy back, Slaughter filled in nicely as well those 2-3 games Tank was out which proves at the least he should have been in a rotation at safety. Walker and Slaughter should be the starters going into spring.

I can agree with that….. it’s hard to know me if he was messing up assignments though…. Everyone thought Hadden was our best corner when we was rolling our coverage to provide to help his side… he didn’t look as good when we stopped doing that after Burrell went out.

Yeah, but I've seen that tendency from a lot of coaches. They stick with a returning starter when a younger or new guy is better.

At this point I'd say offensively we've not done that, cause I feel like the best WRs and best RBs have been put on the field regardless of how long they've been here or if they are new players to the system. Heupel needs to convince the defensive side to do the same thing, especially Willie/Banks with the secondary.

But as it was pointed out we had the most injuries in the secondary.

Slaughter missed 1
Turnage missed 2
Burrell missed 10
Tank missed 2
Flowers missed 1
Hadden missed 4
Rucker missed 5
Charles missed 3
Williams missed 4

The good news is Jourdan Thomas and Andre Turrentine both appeared in all 12 games (mostly on special teams) so they must like what they've seen from those two guys to not be chasing more DBs in the portal. Walker and McDonald also played in all 12 games. I just think they have numbers and must feel like youth and injuries contributed to most of the issues we had back there. I also think as thin as we've been the staff wants to get through the Orange bowl before they send anyone out the door, could need all of the healthy guys to play for that one.
We have a lot of DBs…. I wonder if they may push a few out to try and upgrade them.

Somebody clear this up for me: Is Jeremy Banks out for the bowl game? I saw something about it earlier and there wasn't much elaboration

It's not all on the players when your passing D yards allowed ranks #127. Candy and Arky were the only two in the SEC in the same range. We were the SEC's version of UNC in the ACC.

We have a lot of players that a lot of SEC schools wanted who have better D's and secondary coaches/DCs. The talent was back there. Many SEC schools had lower rated roster talent and had better passing defenses.

There is a factor to consider that says more passing yards are a result of having to defense more plays due to our O being tempo that gives each team more possessions. The exception to that argument is that we give up more plays per drive than normal because we could not get off the field. Our rush game D was #19. They also had more plays to defense than norm. Yet, they got it done.

The scheme of getting to the passer quickly to help on the back end did not work well enough. It appeared at times that DC Banks even forgot that plan, which caused part of the problem.

Our O coaches were exponentially better at their job than the DC and secondary coach were at theirs. Our DL/LB/OLB coaches were better on the defensive side of the ball, but did not get enough done due to scheme and play calls to help the passing defense. It's in the stats.

It's really that simple. That says if Heup stands pat with D-staff another season they better perform better as coaches, which they may. Will see. I would not be betting my career on it, but that's Heup's to decide and he's the man.

We all know our pass defense in the past couple of years has been atrocious to say the least. It makes me wonder if the D coaches really didn't have the horses to do what they wanted and were giving up so much space just to protect against the splash plays. We play 10-15 yards off the ball all year and you just can't do that and expect to stop someone that has any type of a passing game. I know they see it but they just didn't think we had the developed talent to press coverage. Time will tell.....

If that's the same as the recent story I've seen, it was a Great Pyrenees. Truly a bad *** and wonderful breed. You will never find a more loyal breed. A bit headstrong, with lots of character. But so courageous, and amazing heart.

The story is that among its many wounds, it had about an 8 inch wide strip of skin ripped off its back.

Alright my sports betting enthusiasts, Ohio opens up on Jan 1. Which site is the best? I see sign up offers for Fanduel, Draft Kings and Barstool running currently enticing me to sign up now. @Enki_Amenra

Last times Banks didn't play was SCar. I hope our defense plays better against Clemson than they did against SCar.

A lot of coaches only coach to their system instead of adjusting it to the talent they have. This may be the problem, who know's but the defensive backfield has been a real problem as we all know. Maybe with the incoming talent things will change.
