I know we haven't seen them on the field yet, but has there even been such a turnaround at a position in UT history? I mean we went from one of the worst reciever corps in a long time to arguably the strength of our team next season. In just one year we added a huge amount of talent and depth. Pearson, Malone, Helm, Wolf, Jenkins returning, and Wharton in one offseason.
For all of our issues, I think 70% of our potential success hinges on the QB position. The difference between subpar, serviceable and above average could swing up to 4 games, IMO
The crazy thing is, we really don't know what (or who) we are going to get.
Hard to predict this season

Just ran across this:
NCAAF David Shaw: Why can't SEC play 9? - ESPN
"Waaaaaaa!!" is all I can say. An 8-game SEC schedule is more difficult than any 9-game conference schedule in any other league imo. More typical PAC-whatever whining.
Ian Yates
case in point. Non Conference Games for the Entire SEC (2014)
Alabama - Florida Atlantic, Western Carolina, West Virginia
Auburn - San Jose St., Louisiana Tech, Samford (SAMFORD!!)
Georgia - Troy, Charlston Southern
SC - East Carolina, South Alabama
Florida - Idaho, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky
MS State - Southern Miss, UAB, UT Martin
MIzzou - S Dakota State, Toledo, UCF (WEEKS 1-3!!), Indiana
Ole Miss - Boise St (at home), LA Lafayette, Presbyterian (MF Presbyterian), Memphis
Tenn - Utah St, AK St, Chattanooga
A&M - Lamar (WTF is Lamar), Rice, SMU, UL Monroe
Vandy - Temple, UMass, Charlston Southern, Old Dominion
AK - Nicholls St, TX Tech, UAB, Northern Illinois
LSU - Wisconsin (in baton rouge), Sam Houston, UL Monroe, NM St.
Kentucky - UT Martin, Ohio (not Ohio St), UL Monroe, Louisville (away)
so out of all these non conference games you have a legitimate argument for LSU Wisoncon, but its in Baton Rouge, Ole Miss - Boise St, but its at Ole Miss and maybe Kentucky - Louisville. but Kentucky has 0.00% change of winning the SEC.
now how is that playing top competition.
Oklahoma, Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech I would say have been left off.
I know and when he concedes that LSU is playing Wisconsin, he immediately says it doesn't count because it's in Baton Rouge. Sneaky little PAC-homer.
Conference bowl records 1998-2012

Pac12 41-45 47.5%
ACC 49-55 47.1%
Big10 47-59 44.3%
Only one conference with a winning record. Hmmm.

Yep. UT, UF, UGA, and USC's schedules don't align well with his 'they don't play anyone whine.' And bringing up UF, UGA, and USC would bring up the fact that those schools have permanent OOC rivals against quality opponents. Georgia is playing both Clemson and Tech this year.
Also Auburn's missing game (and I know I didn't highlight them) is K-State.
You are an opposing def. coordinator. How are you going to cover North,Pearson,Malone,Croom, and Hurd in the backfield? Who gets the double team?
Can you cover Hurd with an LB? Got to keep an eye out for our DT QB.
It's a nightmare isn't it?
