Regarding Jason Carrs transfer, I want to go on record in opposition to some of the demeaning comments Im seeing on VolNation, admittedly, mostly in the FF. I think its painful to lose a relationship with someone you had high hopes for but sometimes for any number of reasons things just dont work out. I think parting ways, though as noted not without pain, is sometimes the best thing for all parties. The fact that Jason wasnt going to be able for whatever reason to be used by our staff to, in their view, the best benefit of our football team does not in my view reflect negatively on Jason or the coaches. It just didnt work out.
Parting ways now is in the best interest of Jason because I think he still has a bright future in football, just not with us, and I think well be okay without him. The difference between someone like Jason Carr and Allan Carson or Woody Quinn is that we could have used Jason at different positions based on our needs. Some guys dont offer any versatility.
Jason wanted to play DE and hes not the first guy , and hes far from the last, who has balked at a move to another position. I dont think he was going to play DE for us so I respect the coaches for moving him to where they thought he could contribute in our present schemes and with our present roster. I dont know that they wanted to force a transfer. I sort of doubt it but the move to offensive line was a significant factor, yet according to Butch yesterday, not the only consideration. I believe and hope we will be fine.
I also believe Jason is a fine young man with tremendous potential who still has a lot of opportunities available to him. He will land somewhere and I expect hell be a star. He needs to find the right fit and a team that has a need for what he whole-heartedly can offer. Ill be cheering for him for the rest of his career no matter where he is, no matter whether hes up or whether hes down, because in my book if youve ever worn the Orange, Ill be one of your fans for life. God speed Jason Carr. #GoVols!
