They look bad in the practice videos. Peterman and Wegzyn look like the top 2 in those videos

Not necessarily intended for you, just seemed like as good a post as any to reply to.

So, does anyone really believe that Peterman or Wegzyn will be the starter based off of practice video? I doubt it.

If no one believes that one of them will be the starter, then they either believe that CBJ is purposely putting in a lesser QB (sabotage), or that he has faith in the QB he is going to play. Butch Jones will put the QB in that he feels will give us the best chance to win and it won't be based off of the first six pratice videos.

<-----My opinion. Worley starts because he is the best person for the job. Until I see otherwise in a game, I have know real reason to change that opinion. I also think Dobbs will see more than just mop up duty. I'm betting they will have packages to get him into the game too. He's mobil.....they'll have plays for him.

Butch is being tough on these guys because he knows they're good and can get more out of them. He has yet to temper expectations too much or say they don't expect much. That's a good sign, imo.

As soon as they start underperforming and he says something like, "that's what we expect...", then there's a problem.

No, I dont think either will start. Just saying that based on the videos alone, they seem to complete the most passes. But that doesnt show anyones leadership, knowledge of reading the defense or grasp of the offense.

Truth.

Wegzyn doesn't even look good. I don't know why people keep saying that.

Zero velocity on his passes. None.

If he plays a snap this year it means we've lost 8 games.

The more consistent Worley will start while the younger skill players are getting up to speed - then Dobbs will take-over after the inevitable frustration that comes with Worley never keeping the QB option/ underthrowing wide open receivers.

Here's my thing: Worely is what he is - an average QB. At some point Dobbs is going to figure it out and take his job. He's got a stronger arm, he's more mobile and he's smarter. He's just got to put it all together. Which, I think he will. He just needs more snaps.

All this "sky is falling" talk is nuts. If EVERYTHING bounces right this year we win 7-8 games - which was always the case. If everything goes wrong we win 4-5. QB play is going to be what we thought it was going to be. Very average.

You ready to write off Malone?

No, never said that. Yall are twisting stuff around lately.

I post that based on the videos, Peterman and Wegzyn look the best. Doesnt mean I think they should win the job. If someone who had no knowledge of our team watched those videos, they would probably think they are our top guys.

I post that Malone looks like he doesnt try and doesnt want to be there. Does that mean Im ready to write him off? No. That just means I hope he steps up and tries a little harder. The kid went from 1st team reps, to not even in the 2 deep within 2 days because of lack of effort.

None of them look good. You see the video from the other day where Dobbs sailed a pass about 4 feet over Malone's head on a simple 10 yard curl?

A lot of young players. Maybe the kid ran the wrong route? Maybe he broke it off at 10 yards and it was supposed to be 12? Lots of reasons for everything to not look like it's perfect at this point. Still got 3 weeks till game time. IMO we will be just fine. I think Worley is the starter and will have his best year as a Vol. Dobbs is still young. He will be just fine in time.

Agreed. If/when Dobbs puts it all together, the sky will be the limit for this offense. I'm sure some will call me a negaVol for this, but this offense, in particular the passing game, will never reach it's full potential with Worley holding the reigns.

I said the same thing last year too. He's a tough kid, bleeds orange and is a VFL, so I mean no disrespect to him.

Did they release a two deep?

Butch is staying on him. He won't accept lower effort. Malone will adjust. That is a good thing.

It was just a drill. Everybody was running the same route against air.

Malone has a unique problem of having too much talent for his own good. He makes hard plays look real easy so now they've got to light a fire under him. He's good but he needs a different mindset to be the monster he really is.

This could be right. He's used to being cool as the other side of the pillow. Practicing hard, especially at the pace we probably practice, is an adjustment.

There are a lot of people with short memories on here.

Worley was close to being burned at the stake last season. When Peterman was deemed the starter in the Florida game, the board erupted in celebration...then watched the single-worst half of football for a UT quarterback since Crompton completed a grand total of ZERO passes in the second half versus Auburn in '08.

I'm far from throwing in the towel, however. I've consistently said that Butch can mitigate the offensive shortcomings with high percentage passes, uptempo play calls, and a solid run game....which we have.

Often times when a coach consistently rides his team like this, its because there's reason to believe they can reach the standards that he's preaching. Last year, we heard a lot of patience being practiced with Butch's comments...this year, the gloves are off.

Worley, IMO, is nothing more than a "game-manager." All he needs to do is run the offense efficiently and let the skills players around him do the dirty work. So long as he keeps the INT's to a minimum, we'll be fine...or "ok" at least.

And before someone brings up the UGA and SCe games, we more or less

I think a part of Dobbs' problem that we've all seemed to forget is that he had thumb problems last year. Also, he only played against one bad defense last year. (Kentucky) In that game he had 3 TD's (one running) and a QB rating of 153.5.

My point is, he NEEDS snaps against Utah State and Chatt to build his confidence. If he can go out there and sling it/run it without worrying about his job, I think he'll be a completely different player.
