Haynesworth was on Fox Sports Knoxville this week and he said he supports Haslam completely. He said that Haslam wants to win, he wants Gruden, and he said we would have had Gruden last time but the president got in the way, not Haslam.
Don't care about any list. Just stating facts and some people want to get all caught up in the hoopla instead of seeing through the fog. Gruden could come in and kill it, but for us more "level headed VFLs", think maybe a more proven college coach is what TN needs. Just my opinion, nothing more. Sorry to upset some folks. We still Family
Ummmm No Sir Ree. He is the loudest hire and would make the biggest splash with the media and fans.
But the facts are, The guy has never coached college, never had to put up with 19-21 year old pompous spoiled brats. He's never had to recruit and spend 18 hour days, everyday. It's a whole different animal in college. He's never had to deal with NCAA restrictions and infraction committees.
People get caught up in the fact that he won a SB, and you see him on ESPN. But that doesn't translate into being a good coach in college. Period.
There are several coaches that should be higher up in the "List". Patterson, Franklin, Fuentes, Richt, Peterson, Mullen, all know the hardships that come with being a College head coach, and also the parameters that come with the NCAA guidlines and rules also. Gruden has already stated, in years past, that he doesn't like the hourly rule set forth by the NCAA, on coaching time limit.
And sure, he could knock it out of the park, but to say he's the "Best" hire, is just not true. Fans are placing a lot on him just because he coached 10 years ago in the NFL. The odds are stacked against him and that's a lot of pressure and expectation for anyone. I'd rather see a proven College big wig come in and take us to the promise land.
There is so much wrong with this posts that its difficult to know where to start.
Im fairly certain someone who deals with 20-30 year old millionaires who were recently removed from college will be fine.
Listing guys like Fuentes, Richt, and Mullen is insulting. Each of their schools would can their guy to hire JG.
The amount of time spent discussing the difficulties of college coaching is ridiculous. If you can coach in the NFL you can coach in college. This man was traded to Tampa for one reason... to win a Super Bowl. He did it. He can handle the vaunted pressure of a Saturday in Athens.
And all of the proven college coaches who can win big that you listed.. havent ever even made a college football playoff.
Yeah, they hung that young man out to dry and the fanbase jumped on him like rabid dogs.
One thing that I have been learning the past several weeks is how quickly myself, and many on here, have jumped to support the coach and criticize the player or the media member or fan who called him out. Fact is, Butch has been the problem. We were wrong about Hurd, we were wrong about Haney, and who knows what else we have been wrong about.
I imagine we're going to hear a lot more if and when Butch is finally fired. You don't just have 30 something 4 and 5 star transfers without there being a problem over there. He needs to go.
