I think the rumors definitely seem more legitimate and believable this time around, with ESPN and MNF running on hard times, our program being in better shape, and him actually visiting Knoxville. However, I think in 2012 there were at least a few media members who thought there was something to the rumors. This time around, there don't seem to be any. All reputable media sources seem to simply reject the notion out of hand. Makes me think that if something is going on behind the scenes, it is very far from a sure thing.

I agree. However, my guess is some media may be hesitant because of what happened in 2012. In fact, Hargis tweeted in October that if Gruden called Grider again, he is keeping quiet. Also, I seemed to recall the real media reports in 2012 came after the fact. There was nothing significant while it was happening.

Here's an example of what I had in mind. SI posted a statement from Jon Gruden about the rumors, they were so thick. We are nowhere close to this kind of confirmation by national news sources.

Maybe they are doing great keeping this under wraps. I'm definitely listening to the rumors and would love them to be true. Getting Gruden would be a complete game-changer.
