Said two power 5 coaches contacted us who are offensive minds. Said they would be home run hires.

Said Haslam has been pushed to the side and other big money guys have made it clear they will break the bank for Jon Gruden.

Said we are closer to Gruden than we’ve ever been.

Well...a 2% chance is higher than a 1% chance.

I honestly don’t have a problem with the fan comments. The truth is a lot of VN are constantly complaining/miserable about something. We could be 11-1 but if we lost to bama we would be wanting a coach that beats saban regularly. The Bruce pearl petition was an awful look for our fans. I don’t think these problems are unique to our fan base, but they are definitely highlighted here.

I've never worked in the AD. Other people have said that about me, I've never claimed it myself. I don't even live in Knoxville anymore. My company works with Division I schools all over the country and I've seen this play out other places. When ADs don't hire the person the fans want, even if that person had no desire for the job, many fans just start the countdown until the next search.

There’s nothing else to do in Knoxville but UT football. Miami has All 3 Major sports plus major CFB. It’s hard to cram people in seats in major cities like that. Look at USC/UCLA. I never said we didn’t have loyal fans. We obviously do. But I don’t think the vast majority truely understand how hard it is to win at a high level consistently.

20 years since our last SEC ring and we pack that stadium on the regular.

There is a faction of fans for every team that are impossible to please. Tennessee fans for the most part are the best fans in the country. Nobody would sit through a decade of misery and still turn out like they do.

The AD might be pleasantly surprised about fan reaction if it showed some semblance of competency. If that's the MO of the leadership there, there are a lot of people in the wrong business.

Let's face it, it's been ten years of utter crap in football, and 7 years of sporadic crap in basketball. To expect anyone to be pleased right now is idiotic.

I'm guessing you're suggesting someone has been trying to please most vol fans. I'm curious what exactly are most vol fans supposed to be pleased about that most of us are apparently missing in the current football environment?

This is a legitimate question and I'm interested in your response. I'm not disagreeing with you. I just don't understand what we're supposed to be pleased about right now - in regards to football.

lol don't act like Miami fans are going to other sports. I am a Miami fan for professional baseball and professional football. the city sucks at supporting nonchampionship teams. the people that fill the stadium in knoxville arent just from knoxville. a large portion drove from elsewhere so the options in Knoxville are irrelevant imo.

for ten years this fan base has watched it rivals win multiple while we stay in the dumps. Georgia might be next and all three went after their guy to do it and they got him. we have been turned down and **** on. its not surprising to see some anger. at least they care. I'm not one of the Kress types that complain about something every press conference but I can understand people are fed up after a decade. perhaps some perspective on the fan side is required here.

I like you Hank, but come on. MOST Vol fans were giddy going into 2016, and that was coming off an 9-4 season that included us letting 2 huge games slip through our fingers.

And even if you think we shoud be happy with 8 wins and keep our mouths shut, we only won 8 games twice in the last ten years. We just filled Neyland during a 3-5 season playing a C-USA opponent.

Between you and Deerpark, I am starting to wonder just how much respect the AD has for us rubes.
