I agree. And we know from multiple outlets his search has been very “thorough” and the Petersen buzz must be legitimate if they talked about it during the game.

I think Currie is trying like heck to hit a grand slam but so far there are no biters. If we are disappointed in the hire it won’t be because he somehow isn’t committed to winning or made the wrong choice. I just think coaches go places they think they can meet or exceed expectations, and many coaches don’t think they can right now at Tennessee.

We will see though. I may be totally wrong.

And I’m bullish on UT long term. We have as much going for us as Clemson and they are elite right now. I think we are just stuck in a quandary with the Bama series making us uncompetitive in the East. Need to end that series or have Saban retire.

I’ve become convinced no one knows anything because we are getting turned down left and right. Currie kept this quiet so we fans didn’t have to hear that.

My great hire meter is down to 5%.

I’m just waiting to hear so I can log off of Vol message boards for the last time and get on with my life.

I don’t think Currie was prepared for so many jobs to come open that are comparable (Arkansas) or better (A&M, UCLA, UF). I think he’s having to constantly reset expectations. Just my view of how this is playing out.

If you are a coach looking at a Tennessee, you have to figure you only have about 2 or 3 years before the fans turn on you. Can you turn it around that soon and if not, is the stress worth the millions you will make? Could you make more going somewhere where the expectations are more achievable?

I will say this, although VOLS look pitiful right now, we do have money and a great fan base.

Take that defeatist crap elsewhere. The admin has failed the program for years.

If they would pony up and sacrifice enough we could lure a great coach. We care about everything but winning. That’s why we invest in buildings instead of people.

I’m getting off message boards after this hire because I’ve turned into a short term negavol. Don’t want to annoy you guys. I’m convinced the Bama series is holding us down because it makes us uncompetitive relative to UGA and Florida, whose cross over games are more winnable. It’s the only thing I can figure - we have everything else (facilities, recruiting, etc.).

A secondary fix for me would be moving the UF game back in the season to October. We start most years down 0-1 in the SEC and then Bama finishes us off if we don’t slip up before that game. Scheduling is holding us back IMO.

Whoever the coach turns out to be, I actually feel sorry for him. Butch didn't leave him sh*t. Top to bottom, this is no doubt the worst, talentless, soft team I've ever seen.

Let's face the facts.... Tennessee is basically a collection of talentless players coached by a bunch of talentless coaches. It's going to take awhile to dig out of the sh*thole Butch put us in.

Nah, not at all.
There’s a bunch of talent who hasn’t been coached up at all. There are guys getting away with competing just off raw ability. That’s why we suck. Top 15classes with zero development. Watch what happens when we get a coach who teaches kids football situations, down & distance and exploits mismatches in the passing game
