Control.

will you please start looking at my post.

Billionaires dont care about money as long as they have power/control. they will pay for it period.

I majored in Psychology I have a multimillionaire dad who is egotistical just like any multimillionaire/billionaire.

They want to have control/power not only in the coaching search, but with coach itself.

Wow! Professor, where is Gruden? Last I read (albeit have skipped a ton), you predicted “soon”

It's like they go to buy shoes and buy them the wrong size just because they are on sale. Then they make their kids wear them.

The funny thing is, I've never believed they don't want UT to be successful. But they want UT to be successful THEIR way. They want it to be a pet project they can show off to their wealthy acquaintances. "See, we did that. Top research university, top athletics program, and all becuase of us."

I wish we could go back and read the conversation this thread had a month or so ago. It was a civil conversation where a solid number of you had good things to say about Schiano as a Candidate. It was discussed that what he did at Rutgers was similar to Franklin at Vandy and Mullen at MSU. He had much more support than just myself.

THEN this thread fell for the grumors and we found out about Penn state. Funny to see so many here not owning up to initially liking him as a candidate. Now it's malpractice and illegal stuff while the nation laughs at us.

I own it. I thought he was a great candidate BEFORE I found out about the Penn State stuff.

I would not support a guy with any association to that mess.

Not me. In truth though Schiano situation is bigger than the man or his records or his possible knowing of Sandusky's crimes. I do hate that he became our villian but, in truth he represents all the real villany thrust upon this fan base.

Over the top diva
Lackluster record
Questionable player treatment
Potential scandal involvement
And polished like a turd for us to chow down at the last hour like he was actually anyone but Haslam and Currie's first choice.

Saw an interview with Johnny majors on local news tonight. He sided with Schiano. Said if he were AD he wouldn't give a dam what the fans thought. Basically screw the fans. Well Johnny, that's what got your was fired.

It'll be 1000 times worse if we hire Tee and get blown out by WVU then go 4-8 or 3-9 next year. Fans will be outraged and the media will trash us for turning on our own.

After what has happened over the past 3 months I think the fans would be more understanding if it's our own guy. We can't expect to be any good next year.

Screw the class. We saw what happened when we rushed a hire because of one class. Have to look at the big picture. Many wanted Mullen. Mullen won a decent amount of games with 30 rank classes. Get the right guy the rest will take care of itself.

My problem is they don't know how to fix this. This is a mess that will take money to fix. Spend the money on the right hire. Someone will listen and want to come here. If you hire the right guy it will pay for itself. If you rush and make the wrong hire it will cost you more than if you had spent the money on the right hire.

You are wrong. It doesn't just screw one class, it screws two and effects three. It will be a self imposed death penalty, and you will get no better coach by waiting than you will now. You need to hire a decent coach that can stabilize things, then move on to a better one when things look better. It is what it is now.

Criminal negligence and incompetence. Athletic director malpractice.

I agree with cat (what’s wrong with me) that there’s no sense in how all this adds up.

Something is off. Something is weird. This type of systematic destruction doesn’t happen by accident. Billions aren’t made by accident. It takes real acumen. How are things so different here?

I truly believe this and the browns are what they view as their franchise. One profits them. One profits their favorite charity. They don’t have the expertise to run either, but because they did something else that added up to dollars, they believe no one is more qualified. Those confrontations happen over and over. They get spiteful. They get stubborn. To the point you only care you call the shots, with no concerns about the results.

Why wouldn't they want us to be good then? That gets you as much control as you want? Serious question.

Because you don't get a great coach like Nick Saban or Urban Meyer without giving them everything. without allowing them to make the decisions on everything when it comes to the program.

Right now the Haslams have the final say when it comes to everything athletics and that is proven with the John Currie hire. John Currie (supposedly) runs the athletics and determines what happens. However he will always report to the Haslams. whether it's who we hire as the HC, the OC, the DC, the facilities, whatever it is, literally whatever it is, it has to be approved by John Currie (aka approved by Jimmy Haslam).

To win in the SEC you need everything at your disposal. Everything. You need everyone to be on board with what you want and where you want to take the program and that requires a coach to have complete control of the program. Meaning what he says goes, no one else gets an input.

The Haslams are egotistical to the max. Trust me I know the type, I grew up with the type, and I have studied the type with my Psychology degree.

They are Billionaires, they grew up always getting what they want. They grew up never being told no. They grew up always having the final word in everything. It is how they live, it is all they know. They won't ever give that birth right up.

THEIR LOVE FOR CONTROL OVERRIDES THEIR LOVE FOR THE UNIVERSITY

I agree. Will support Tee if he’s the guy, and like him better than some of the names thrown out today, but I’m still baffled that we wouldn’t just make Brohn an offer he can’t refuse. He’s a good coach. He’s got the credibility. He’s got 4 years of impressive HC experience. And he’s at a bottom-feeder P5 school. If Currie can’t convince Brohm to take our job now that all these other schools have made hires, he should be fired for cause and told to sue us for his buyout. (OK, OK, got carried away there at the end. But seriously...)

Such a complex thing. I appreciate some posters owning up to liking his resume.

I need to own up to not measuring the responses to Penn State correctly. I thought with enough positive Schiano reports people would soften. I was wrong

It wouldn't. It's not like you're not getting any players, it's players just ranked lower. This class is not going to make us beat Bama, GA, or anyone for that matter. Get the hire wrong you lose classes next year, the year after, the year after that. Then you fire the coach again and we're sitting here doing this again.

Andy Staples had the single best interview about this whole deal. Everyone should read. The fans are the reason any of this works despite the advertisors, large boosters and administrators that thinking we aren't.

There is one coach out there who is truly compatible with VolTwitter. There is one coach out there who loathes Nick Saban to the same depths we do as a fan base.

He would bring instant excitement and his story here would be a story of redemption both for him and, if successful, our football program.

I'm describing Lane Kiffin and it hurts me to admit everything I've stated above.

But seriously please hire Brohm if he's willing.

Saban against Kiffin would be like a cat against a mouse

I'll just agree to disagree. If we're going to bring Petrino in and say screw what the media thinks is rather take my chances with Tee. I think he could put together a pretty good staff, unite the fanbase, and maybe even win some games. I understand your point.

Petrino is a weak, sad hire. But otherwise I agree with you.

So what experienced, winning coach with big program experience do you think is willing to come here to rebuild this program in the shape it's in, in the current environment? For not a lot of money and minimal buyout. Because UT's not likely to break the bank for lower tier guys.

You are right about this. Just not Kiffin being an answer.

Les Miles.

He is my guy and then Tee.

You and I had a conversation on here about his resume. We compared him to Frost of the early 2000s. Miami tried to hire him. We talked about much needed discipline.

Someone mentioned Penn St. I had never heard that. I thought no way in hell we could hire him after reading that. We all were wrong.
