I just don't understand this. If you are going to hire someone who makes questionable decisions (like Butch did), why not go ahead and hire the assistant coach (Tee or Venables)? At least you have the expectation that he will learn, and begin to make better decisions as time goes on.

Recruiting, talent evaluation/development, practice structure, etc. not sure why people act like Les is a scrub.

Yes, we will end up with Les Miles IMO.

He/Agent is putting it out now that he will bring in a big staff with SEC experiance per Brian Rice.

Edit- To add another note, he said he thinks UT will try and write a big check to Brohm but questions if Brohm will take it.

Would smile.

When Currie was asked about Gruden in that presser he had the perfect opportunity to say, "I have a lot of respect for Jon Gruden and realize that many of our fans have dreamed of him someday being our coach. I have reached out to his agent to gauge Jon's interest. I was told that Jon is not interested in coaching college football, and he is not a candidate for the position of head coach at TN."

So much drama could have been avoided, but Currie insisted on complete radio silence, and in that information void the trolling and conspiracy theories got completely out of hand. There is going to be a narrative. You can guide the narrative by sharing information strategically, or you can do what Currie did and let anonymous people on social media create it from some convoluted combination of fantasies and ill intent.

I still think the meeting with boosters where he was laser focused on stadium renovations was more damning. We all thought he was being coy, and no way he’d trot out nothing less than a home run if he was asking people to pony up that kind of money for stadium renovations.

We were wrong, and it shows that this is really what he wants to highlight on his annual review.

He needs to be fired, and whoever signed off on his dumb f@&&ing contract needs to be fired.

Can't wait for Kiffin to get offered so he can turn us down publicly and troll us some more. That will be great for our image. Are people ****ing serious?

Guys, we are the worst team in the SEC. we don't get to be too picky with a coach at this point m. Hire the best coordinator we can get.

Tee effing Martin. It’s not hard. He’s going to be a HC soon anyways so why not bring him back.

But again we won’t because we have the Haslams and they’ll do whatever they can to screw it up.

I honestly see this hire from a mile away. Haslam will go out and make currie hire Jeremy Pruitt. Pruitt fits haslam's mold perfect to me. And the fan base will be yet again disappointed, per Haslam's mold.

Regarding Tee:

I've seen about 70% of Vol fans say they'd be pumped about it. About 30% say it makes them nervous but they would support him like crazy.

Every nationally media person I've seen mention Tee to UT says it would be a great hire and what they should've done in the first place.

This thing is about as unanimous as it gets.

Which is exactly why the Haslams won't do it. They like to feel smart. And if it is unanimous, and Tee succeeds, they won't get the credit they think they deserve for making the hire.

What sucks is

We are all sitting here saying “I don’t care who it is now. Just hire someone.”

Yeah this is going to end well

Terrible way to proceed. Remember when we discussed how this hire will be program defining? Remember when we discussed how important this hire is to the future of UT football? That's still the case. Take your time and get it right. Don't rush this because we have visitors in this weekend. It's bigger than the early signing period, imo.

I'm almost afraid the best option may be to empty Neyland and continue to bash Haslam and Currie on twitter. Don't give them a damn penny.

Agree. Huge reward ultimately small risk considering.

Seeing how he was the best high school coach in TX for a long time I doubt it.

Coach Eric Taylor

Dude won state after losing his Notre Dame bound QB in game 1, replaced him with a 5'9 aspiring artist that ended up dating his daughter. Had to kick his best defender off the team and his starting fullback was notoriously hungover.

What's wrong with Morris? I know he's only been a HC for 3 seasons but he's turned the worst CFB program into a bowl team and one of the most proficient offenses in America. He is the reason for Clemson becoming relevant.

He landed Watson for Clemson too and he is still the guy Watson goes to work out with in the off season. SMU was outscored by 300+ points the year before he got there. He's going to have a top 10 draft pick this year too....at SMU....he develops talent. He is at a terrible school though.
