I just don't understand this. If you are going to hire someone who makes questionable decisions (like Butch did), why not go ahead and hire the assistant coach (Tee or Venables)? At least you have the expectation that he will learn, and begin to make better decisions as time goes on.
When Currie was asked about Gruden in that presser he had the perfect opportunity to say, "I have a lot of respect for Jon Gruden and realize that many of our fans have dreamed of him someday being our coach. I have reached out to his agent to gauge Jon's interest. I was told that Jon is not interested in coaching college football, and he is not a candidate for the position of head coach at TN."
So much drama could have been avoided, but Currie insisted on complete radio silence, and in that information void the trolling and conspiracy theories got completely out of hand. There is going to be a narrative. You can guide the narrative by sharing information strategically, or you can do what Currie did and let anonymous people on social media create it from some convoluted combination of fantasies and ill intent.
Guys, we are the worst team in the SEC. we don't get to be too picky with a coach at this point m. Hire the best coordinator we can get.
What sucks is
We are all sitting here saying I dont care who it is now. Just hire someone.
Yeah this is going to end well
Regarding Tee:
I've seen about 70% of Vol fans say they'd be pumped about it. About 30% say it makes them nervous but they would support him like crazy.
Every nationally media person I've seen mention Tee to UT says it would be a great hire and what they should've done in the first place.
This thing is about as unanimous as it gets.
Which is exactly why the Haslams won't do it. They like to feel smart. And if it is unanimous, and Tee succeeds, they won't get the credit they think they deserve for making the hire.

Seeing how he was the best high school coach in TX for a long time I doubt it.
What's wrong with Morris? I know he's only been a HC for 3 seasons but he's turned the worst CFB program into a bowl team and one of the most proficient offenses in America. He is the reason for Clemson becoming relevant.
