Debord has not coached in a few years, the game changes. Can he still be a good coach? Who knows, but Durden is at least coaching currently.
Personally I trust Butches decision until the results come in.
I'm not advocating for one or another as I don't really know who would the best for what we need but I do think there's some confusion about Debord or at least unfair panic induced dislike of the guy and I blame a lot of the "ZOMG not Debord" on the twitter reaction led by some of our program's media gadflys when his name surfaced. People followed that lead both on twitter and on here without really checking the man out.
Debord last coached in 2013 and left the NFL when Lovie Smith got fired but he stayed on with the Bears past the hiring deadline which meant he didn't coach in 2014 so one year out at most as it just turned 2015. However, Debord's position at Michigan was likely a bit more than the job description would lead us (and the NCAA given NCAA limits on the number of coaches a team is allowed to have on staff) to believe. He was in charge of the team when Hoke was dismissed and he apparently had a hand in the Harbaugh hire so obviously he didn't stick to just doing "Olympic" sports.
Durden I haven't had a time to research yet. I was admittedly not excited about Debord last night, hell I was getting flat out worried, but in retrospect almost all of that was due to the reaction I saw on twitter and here which influenced my own thoughts since I knew nothing about him other than the fact that everyone seemed to be freaking. But now that I've had time to research the guy more, I think he's a good candidate -- definitely nothing to fear.
And with Durden, if Jones is contacting him I'm sure he's a good candidate too even though he seems an odd choice as well. I'll have to research him more to really form any opinion.
I'm just surprised at the very different reactions to candidates we didn't know much, if anything, about when their names surfaced and with Debord, people acted like he was ancient.
