But it obviously doesn't bother Butch so it shouldn't bother you by your logic. You can pick and chose what bothers you about Butch's decisions but others are not aloud? Your hyper critical of Butch at the thing he's proven to be the best at while you criticize others for being critical of the thing that he's really not proven to be good at.

Has his hires for the most part met expectation since taking over? 7 Wins a bowl win and 2 top 5 recruiting classes. IMO the staff for the most part has been up to par. I'd replace the OL coach. Butch may have just hired a guy with a lot of experience there. Imo reasonable

As for hanging a recruit out to dry vs hiring an OC, not at all compareable IMO.

It really makes no sense to me that so many of us couldn't stand Bajakian, the guy Butch has trusted with his offense for 8 years, but have blind faith that no matter who Butch hires, we can trust that he'll be good because of Butch.

Some of us are just trying to rationalize a hire that makes very little sense at all.

:good!: Gets it.

I can tell that you think I'm just BS'ing everyone and I wish I were. This is from the same person that said Henderson was leaving (Hubbs denied at first), Hendrix, Helm and Scott were leaving, Payne was leaving and that Dobbs' redshirt would be pulled when Worley went down.

I'm hoping and praying it was bad info.

I believe in you man. You never have to explain it to me. Keep on posting.

With Stripling being a UM guy I kind of wonder about the perception of bringing another one on board. But the Tennessee brand is being reworked. Most were saying the Offense was a year away given personnel development this fall. We have seen how having the players in place can really polish up a coach's reputation.

Being a coordinator is not all about just having a killer scheme. A large part of it has to do with communications and relationships. Certainly the practice field peopled with top flight atheletes and its dynamics will be no strange land to DeBord if he is the guy. Not sure why there is this craving for sizzle. The players will bring the sizzle and the O is loaded up. The O-Line will get some new input with DeBord on board. The other position coaches will work themselves out. Gillespie's got Hurd and Kamara. The O should be fine even without a boy-wonder running the show.

Mahoney has been widely criticized as has Bajakian. Both of his guys from Cincy. Have they met expectations, yes. Have they over achieved? Absolutely not. They did the absolute minimum this year to have a passing grade. They were a close win win against Vandy from having a failing grade by most reasonable expectations. From a recruiting standpoint he has been an over acheiver. I am all Butch but I have the right to question whether hiring a guy that no one in the country has had any interest in for a football coaching position in three years, college or pros. This has the smell of Butch trying to help an old buddy out.

I trust Butch to make a decision that works. Everything he has done seems to be well thought out and planned according to a master plan that he is executing. I am sure he has a plan for how he wants to structure this staff. He knows that his job is on the line and is not going to make a decision that will cost him his job or his reputation. The bottom line is that he will be measured by results on the field.

I wish Volnation had a feature that could notify me when useful information is posted. It would save a lot of time spent reading posts that don't really matter (like this one)!

Y'all could use this right now I think. We have no idea what is going down so let's all woosa and relax. There'll be plenty of time for freaking out and mattress burning later. Let's get the scoop from the man before we pass judgement.

I don't claim to know anything much about the guy, but I just found an article on the program from back then.. Michigan Football: Six Reasons Why the Wolverines Will Succeed in 2008 | Bleacher Report

It contains this lovely tidbit:

This is completely new and different from the Lloyd Carr regime, with his offensive coordinators Terry Malone and the now infamous Mike DeBord. Michigan's offense under past OC leadership was predictable, to say the least, and lacked any sense of urgency to score or strategic innovation.

Michigan's offensive complexity and inventiveness last fall could be summed up in two plays: Hart zone run off left tackle and Mario Manningham flag pattern pass play. That's about it.

The Cincy staff was meh for me now and was then. Do you really think this is even a top 10 staff? From a recruiting standpoint I don't see many better but from a coaching standpoint especially offensively, there are 10 -20 staffs that I would pick over our guys.

I will wait till they have their system and recruited players fully implemented in four years. So far, pretty good. Watch the last two years to know more.
