So your contention is the entire treasury was squandered basically in the Fulmer through Dooley fiasco...even though you contend they've been cheap since the beginning of time?
How can Bama and OSU afford their hires? Multiple reasons I doubt you're willing to listen to. But I'd contend the main reason is because their administrations entered the 21st century well before UT did.
Anytime any position opens up on the UT staff, his name gets thrown out there. I know he's been successful at Maryville, but I don't follow HS football, so I know nothing about him. But many VN posters seem to love him.
You guys freak out what too much. Period. Just like when butch was hired. "Oh my god. What will the recruits think"
Hummmmmmmmm
If you're looking to go the HS route and give a guy a shot, IMO few resumes would look better than Quarles. Add to it his recruiting ability instate and he would be a great hire IMO. WR coach, yeah. OC IMO, no.
Since you're so simple minded, I'll splain it for you. We are in this shape because our performance sucked and fan participation dwindled as did donations. Thus vastly dimished revenue to the AD. Couple that with huge buyouts and the situation you find the UT AD in is what you get.
The reason Bama and other schools can afford to pay top flight coaches is because they have fan bases that throw money at them because of their success. Now I realize that you have far superior intellect than I so I'm sure I'm just stoopid To you but that's just fine by me.
And for those who kept insisiting opposition to DeBord was about his age, it had nothing to do with his age. Take away the fact he's been out of coaching for a year, go ahead and throw out he hasn't served as an OC in several years, and you'll finally get to the crux of the arguement. His position coaching resume screams "If I get the job the offensive staff is looking at even more major shake ups less than two weeks til NSD!" I don't really fear any of our D commits being influenced by this, but how will our O commits react? How well liked was Mahoney by our commits, and by the kids we're still chasing? Allen talked about going to the movies with him. Said he had a good relationship with him. Did we just close the door on one of our LT possibilities?
And no, this is not a freak out. Chips are gonna fall where they will. But there's more to the hire than some are giving credit to. It wasn't long ago we were enjoying the instability of UGA's offense, now were this close to NSD and our own offensive staff is facing the same kind of instability. I'm not gonna panic, but let's see reality for what it is.
DeBord just does not make a lot of sense.
But can he coach WRs? The last WR I remember UT taking from Maryville HS was Tyler Maples. That didn't work out so well. A position coach should actually be able to coach the position he's hired for. I'm not bashing the guy, but a hire should make sense beyond simple recruiting.
LWS posted that Debord would be a big key in landing Richmond and Allen. How I'm not sure, but I saw it quoted where he posted it on VQ.
