It makes sense if he becomes the OL guy and replaces/helps Mahoney and is simply a figurehead as OC otherwise. If he is named sole OC and Z walks then yeah...it makes a lot less sense.

As far as Bama and Ohio State go...you said it's because they have fan bases that throw money at them because of their success. The very hires you referenced have roots in the exact opposite of success (Bama's RichRod debacle and OSUs Tressel scandal and the Fickell year). They were able to make those hires because their ADs weren't digging out from under years of spending/borrowing like drunken sailors and decades of good ol' boy management.

Bama wandered through the wilderness for a decade until they got tired of it and ponied up big time to play football with the big boys. OH State has had success for a long time in multiple sports. A coaches salary, especially an assistants salary is peanuts compared to the overall budget. Our finances were fine until the wheels of our cash cow, football came off. Dwindling attendance, and donations coupled with the worst economic times since the depression all hitting at the same time, 2008, add in the huge buyouts we've been paying, and you end up where we are.

It's like this, if you've had a six figure job and your lifestyle is based on that six figure job and then all of a sudden you find yourself as a Walmart greeter, you're going to find yourself in a financial conundrum.

I guess but at this time I don't see how he fits. If you want to take your offense to another level do you really believe mike debord is the guy for the job?

No offense, but if he was successful at either location, why is he now a GA? And that's a legitimate question, not a smart ass remark.

What about promoting Sheridan to QB coach and showing Mahoney the door? I think most people would be fine with that. Don't know if it happens though. You can be sure Butch knows the recruiting ramifications of having a GA as a QB coach.

Maybe taking the offense to another level means Butch hiring a guy who is 100% okay with letting Butch control every aspect of the offense?

The fact that DeBord is a pro style guy makes me believe it's just not possible that Butch is going to hand over the reigns and let him dust off his 1997 playbook from Ann Arbor.

Idk. I was just throwing out info that he did have some experience coaching QBs at the D1 level. I personally think it would be a mistake but my family's livelihood isn't on the line.

Surely not. He has built up that respect and that's not debatable.

That is a waste of a hire. Especially if Azzani leaves, too. This guy has zero experience in Butch's system and no QB coach, too. QB's are not going to want to come here because of a GA. I honestly feel like the defense is SEC and the offense is AAC. If some kind of miracle comes from it, so be it. But right now, if he's hired. Big thumbs down 👎....
