Mostly just proposing an alternative. I do think that our fan base has maybe overblown him a bit however and I think that is because we haven't had a plethora of talented players come thru lately.

For instance, one person said Cam is the best defensive back we've had since EB. That's exactly right. But that's not really saying a lot either. And in my opinion, he's not anywhere near the level of Eric Berry.

There are a ton of really good college football players in this country and Cam is certainly one of them.

The coaches have already said the Cam will be used in multiple positions for match-ups this next season. Which is what a few of us wanted to see last season - especially against the Coopers. I guess they felt he needed another year of experience. At least they are going to do it now. The point being is those match-ups are going to showcase to the scouts and most everybody just how good he is. Big year coming for Cam.

Read somewhere where the coaches said the talent on the rest of the defensive roster is where it needs to be to allow them to be more versatile to move him around like they want.

I agree with most of this. However, the media fawns all over VHIII and overlooks Can Sutton in basically every article when, in reality, they have almost identical stats and upon close observation, are on a similar level skill wise. I think its the repeated snubs that bother people the most.

Nah, no overrating going on here. Cam is a first round draft talent for next year, and he's only a junior. He's one of the best DB's in the country and once he is playing on a better team this year, he'll start popping up on more of these lists. He's the definition of a lock down corner, and really has been since about 6 games into his freshman season. Stud in every sense of the word.

Every mock I've seen by legit sites have him in the top 12 outside of USA Today's which had him at 25th. (I know it's early)

Sutton has everything NFL scouts look for in a corner now days. Long, rangy, speed, great ball skills and can come up and lay a lick when he needs to. That guy calling him overrated is clueless

Cam Sutton has the talent to be one of the best corners UT has had in the last 30 years, if not longer. Will he hit those milestones that it takes to build that kind of success? Only time will tell.

I tend to think he will.

But, no, he's not quite as talented as Eric Berry...but very few ever are.

I don't disagree with any of that, and he could certainly be picked in the top 15, but mock drafts in May mean about as much as preseason polls (ask Tyler Bray). Like you said, way too early to claim he won't be drafted out of the top 15 in next year's draft. Claiming he will "at worst" be a top 15 pick is just silly.

I think he's well on his way to being a first round type talent, which is very, very good.

Are you insinuating Sutton isn't as good as people believe? We've had plenty of time to figure it out by now; he's the real deal.

I'm saying he's awesome and is super underrated by most in the media. I've said that multiple times. I'm also saying mock drafts in May are a waste of time and are rarely anywhere close to accurate.

I just don't get how he can be equal or better in almost every stat, with a worse DL and secondary helping him out, against the same competition, and national media doesn't even put him in the second category as VH.

I don't mind if people think VH is better, but to act like Cam isn't even worth discussing as being better or equal is frustrating. What he does in run support is better than any CB, period. What he does everywhere else is at least comparable.

Most of Bray's issues were firmly rooted in his lack of maturity. However, I tend to agree that Dooley's penchant for being extremely lax with the few star players that he had, impacted Bray, and the rest of the team for that matter, in a negative way.

Sigh...I can't stand Dooley.

He told me himself he didn't get along with Dooley. He was tight with a couple of other players at the time and they all said the same thing.

I don't doubt that one iota. If you believe half of the stories that are out there about him--like how much more meticulous he was with the placement of trash cans on the practice field than he was with film study of opposing teams--you come to realize how much of an entitled, arrogant, piece of human excrement he is, who had no business ever walking the sidelines as an assistant, much less a head coach.

Bray was fun to watch against bad/average defenses, but he was also one of the least clutch QBs ever. I think he got worse the longer he stayed at Tennessee. When he was slinging it around as a freshman he was pretty good and played loose. By the time he was a junior, he shut down during tight games. I had zero faith in him to win games for us.
