I think Arkansas is going to be good. They play winning football and are going to be in just about every game. Great defense, great running game. Those things win you ballgames.

Yeah except their defense isn't going to be great they lost a lot of good players on that side of the ball last year.

How much crap is this...

Sutton left off the Thorpe Award watch list. 42 total DBs, 6 from the MountIn West Conference. Three from the SEC... And no Cam.

He will be there in the end but somebody doesn't do homework.

They play winning football huh?

Last 3 years:

14-23 overall record
4-20 SEC record.

Yup. That's winning football.

They will have to keep opponents under 20 points to win games. That's why I think Butch gambles big time down in Gainesville this year. Expect to see a lot of high-risk plays if the offense sputters. He'll trust our defense to get a lot of stops and turnovers.

I'm sure Butch probably wishes he had a couple calls back from last year's Florida game, but aside from taking a shot on the very first play of the game, I don't think we'll be throwing a ton of haymakers just for the sake of it.

Unless UF controls the line of scrimmage like they did last year (much less likely with Dobbs at QB), then we might have to really go crazy trying to get splash plays.

Even still, you're totally right about being able to trust our defense. As long as we don't turn the ball over (Dobbs' accuracy will be key), we should win without having to take the offense to End-Around City.

The Florida game is still a psychological thing at this point. If we can somehow get a big play or two early and build a nice lead, like 14-0 or something, I think it would really relax everybody and allow the game to really open up and then we could pile on. Until the team and fanbase starts believing against Florida, I just think the teams are going to continue to play tight against them. Coaching staff included.

Isn't he based in ATL? Kinda wonder if he's only doing it to create controversy among UGA fans. Maybe he's their version of Clay Travis.

Lot of Vol fans in the area... Producers probably require them to talk Vols for ratings

I think the team is fine from the mental perspective. We have young leaders like Hurd and Barnett (and even as a true freshman, KMac) who are as hungry as anyone. You have seasoned guys like North, and Sutton who know we probably should have had the game won last year if it weren't for an immobile QB and that QB throwing a couple really bad picks. We have a smart and seemingly fearless QB who hasn't had the shot he deserves at them yet. And we have Curt Maggitt and our starting safeties who are due. I think across all levels of our team, there's a fire the won't quit like Dooley's teams did.

As for the fanbase.. I don't think I'll ever call us "fine from a mental perspective".

No doubt. It's just like a contagious tightness our teams play with against Florida, even across new rosters and coaching staffs. Last year's game was the perfect example of it.

SouthKnox-- like it or not, they're on the upswing. I've posted before, and I'll say it again, I don't understand how any Vols fan could pump our team up so high for going 4-1 our last 5, but completely ignore Arkansas' finish.

Dominating LSU and Ole Miss in back to back weeks (#20 and #8 respectively) and losing to Mizzou before obliterating Texas > beating a floundering SCar, Kentucky, Vandy, and Iowa while also losing to Mizzou.

I get they're losing Philon, Flowers, and a few other starters, but that doesn't automatically mean not a single new starter will fill in nicely. They still get to field 11 guys on defense. I also get that our recruiting is lights out, and our roster is a lot sexier on paper. But with a good coaching staff, the argument of star power holds less weight. Trey Flowers was a 0.800 composite in the c/o 2011. Philon was a 0.8799. Speight was a 0.8544. Brooks Ellis was a 0.8682. Just because Arkansas doesn't have exclusively 4*'s in their two-deep doesn't mean they don't have anyone else to fill in.

No one's saying Arkansas will go to the SECCG (much like what you hear around here and elsewhere for the Vols), it's just going to be a much more hard-fought game than what many on VN are giving it credit for. It's an impossible game to predict given the two styles of play, but to think it's going to be an easy win just because they have a few parts to replace is totally naive.

Watch lists mean about as much as projected W/L, or approximately nothing.

Jim McElwain just doesn't seem like a UF football coach. I'm thankful James Franklin didn't end up there, although from a personality standpoint he would have been a perfect fit for the Gators.

This guy?

I'm afraid for his skin.

Arky will be a lesser version of what UGA was last year. Great running game and mediocre defense.

They are going nowhere in the West though. They better hope one of Collins/Williams doesn't get hurt. Allen is garbage at QB. Hunter Henry is solid at TE though.

They lost four future NFLers off the defense. Losing two outstanding outside linebackers is tough to replace. Martrell Spaight was really talented. Darius Philon will be tough to replace too in the interior of that defensive line. That might be our most physical game of the season and that is saying a lot when we face OU, UGA, and Bama.
