He didn't. Our deal is similar to most Nike schools. For whatever reason, they paid out the ass to get Michigan. It's by far their biggest contract.
We've also only seen the lump sum payments. How do we know that they didn't take a lower % of merch sales or supplied gear? Need to see all the details before we strip somebody down for their negotiating ability.
Completely off topic here, but I've been listening to as many of Butch's interviews from yesterday as I can find, and he mentioned multiple times that he has been impressed with the freshmen LBs.
Everyone giving Dave Hart props for bringing NIKE to campus. However, it appears he got us hosed at the negotiating table:
Dustin Dopirak @TennesseeBeat If I do the math right, Nike is paying Michigan $6.4 million per year in cash alone, which is more than five times what they're paying UT.
BREAKING: Michigan says its deal with Nike from 2016-2027 is worth $169 million w/$76.8M in cash alone)
Any mention specifically of how well Kirkland is coming along?
Thanks for the info. This kid is going to be a star. I hope he does show out in camp this fall. This was the DK tidbit...
"We could have mentioned middle linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. above with the other freshmen who are impressing from a physical standpoint. We heard from two more sources in the past week that Kirkland is showing all the signs of someone whos intent on impressing in preseason camp. Lets put it this way: It wouldnt surprise anyone if he did"
Missouri is ripe for the picking this year. Mauk isn't good enough to carry them all year
A couple weeks away from the birth of a son. I will be watching all games from home with silent yelling and namnaste moments except the Florida game as it's local. Have fun guy. I'm jealous.
It isn't Butch's decision. Hubbs said on 104.5 this morning that if the case isn't resolved soon, he isn't sure that the school will let him enroll for the fall semester, making him ineligible to play football. That is why there is so much concern about it being resolved soon.It likely will be Butch's decision whether or not Von Pearson will play. Butch's policy is to suspend a player indefinitely while an investigation is open, and KPD can keep the investigation open indefinitely with little hope of establishing probable cause.
Two of the six witnesses are UT players and the incident reports are public record (with UT having unredacted copies), so Butch is in a position to make an informed decision on whether or not Von should represent the Vols. Of course, he doesn't have to do anything at all, in which case this could drag on indefinitely.

I expect to hear something on this soon. Next week at the latest.
