Overall....We aren't as good at defense as we could be because we aren't any good at DT after losing our 3 best at that position and we are missing two of our best players and were missing 3 of our 4 best players for most of the year. Other guys have missed/missing time as well.

Shoop has had slow starts all year and that has been disappointing but at the same time he isn't playing with a full deck. Nowhere close to it.

I'm sure it's been a rude awakening for the fans who thought he was fielding the 85 bears at Vandy and PSU with a bunch of slow 3* kids because of some stats.

100% agree with this, also tend to believe Shoop hasn't been able to integrate some parts of the defense he would like because of the revolving door at several positions..

I kinda get the feeling that South Carolina is going to be a pain under Muschamp. He has his QB now. And that defense will only get better. The team is playing over its head now with Bentley.

He hasn't demonstrated an ability to lose to Butch no matter the roster he has. So I think you are most likely going to be proven correct.

I've said a few times this season that I think Butch is gone before 2018 due to a firing or leaving on his own when his reputation is still in tact as a good coach.

I am now of the belief it could be before 2017. His recruiting is a hint.

Watch Butch and Notre Dame

Did this happen when he got trucked by the TTech RB? I just figured he got his bell rung.

Not sure which play. He went to the locker room in the 1Q and returned in street clothes.

They said knee, then ankle, now I guess it's officially knee. We've lost a lot of starters in OOC games that don't matter.

He's not getting fired before 2017.

Could he leave? I guess he could but he's going to have to go to a lesser program and probably take a cut in pay.

That means a school who is a step down from UT would have to want him bad enough to pay his multi million dollar buyout. What school fits that description?

I feel almost like we need to get to Atlanta to pump some juice back into our recruiting. Especially if we can be competitive and/or win in it.

Hoping Auburn wins out and makes it from the West. Forget pride. I don't wanna play bama again this year.

But is Callaway not a more proven/successful returner than Abernathy?

Abernathy has been the lead blocker for Berry and pretty much kept pace with him speedwise. Also has handled the stray kickoffs aimed away and showed plenty of burst. Opportunity is a flashlight.

I would have felt better about Evan getting injured had it happened while he was toting the rock. It wasn't, it was on a tackle he made.

I specifically said he could leave on his own.

You have to remember schools outside of Tennessee and the SEC see that he came to Tennessee who was a nobody at the time and turned them into (hopefully) SEC East champions and improved his wins each year by 2

Here are some schools who could pay enough to get him to look and will potentially have openings (for various reasons):

Baylor
Louisville
Cal
Texas Tech
Houston
Arizona
USF

ND and Oregon won't look at him, imo. But the schools above are a step down in tradition, but don't have the pressure. Butch isn't my kind of guy, so I'll just leave it at that.

I don't know. I understandyour premise, but looking at it right now (and granted, still a lot of time left in the season for things to change), I just don't see that soft landing spot for him. He's not going to a non P5 school (on his own), and he's definitely not going to the NFL. Let's go ahead and eliminate the Kansas's and Rutgers of the world, and probably the marquee jobs like LSU and Texas.

I think the Notre Dame job would have been a landing spot, but I honestly think (unless he can do some spinning) the USC loss will put a big stain on that for a fan base that seeks prestige, and Baylor may have made some sense but given Title IX, you can throw that one out. Penn St also would have been a draw I think, but Franklin got a ton of equity in beating OSU. There's always surprise openings, but unless a school with a profile like Michigan State is one of them, I don't think there is anywhere to go after this year.

Certainly may be overlooking somebody though.

Looks like you've put together a list while I was typing, so you can mostly disregard my previous post.

Of those you listed, I think the only really viable one is Louisville (unless you are a fan of irony and want to go Cal), and that hinges on someone wanting to pay that monster buyout.
