I think it would be imprudent to give CBJ an extension. A pay bump, yes; extension, no.
It depends how the extension effects the buyout amount. Hopefully they just don't stick another 2.5 mil per year on the end. If we finish out like we should I wouldn't hate if they front-loaded the buyout for the 2017/2018 seasons because I don't see a realistic scenario where he gets fired before that

DeBord retires.
Mahoney not renewed.
Z leaves for advancement elsewhere.

Could Shoop or Scott be one and done? Maybe Martinez and Thig move on? Sheridan goes and we finally hire a QB coach?

I can see your top 3 scenarios.

I don't think Shoop leaves. I don't see any reason to. He's not getting a head coach job this season, and though the defense is gutted, no one is excited about hiring the coordinator at a premium price who has just put up those numbers.

No idea on Scott

Doubt Shoop is one and done. he prob doesn't get a HC offer. We probably got really lucky his defense isn't healthy and as good as it can be. We will keep him longer now. Martinez and Thig likely gone. If one of those stays maybe Thig but I think Martinez will be out based on CB performance. One of them def is gone as Shoop will finally be allowed to bring one of his guys in to teach his system better

He's here next year for sure... and should be. After that, the new AD will be calling the shots. I'd like to see CBJ get a pay bump and let the rest ride until then. Not that I think for a nanosecond that will happen.

Shoop would be selling low on himself. He'll succeed here in time. Agree with you there.

I'm actually okay with the offensive staff, mostly. I think Mahoney takes too much heat here based on struggles from two seasons ago. Azzanni's unit has had a solid year. Gillespie appears to be the strongest assistant on the staff, and we aren't dropping Scott this soon. Gillespie is the only guy I'd fight like hell to keep, but I'd be okay with maintaining the status quo on offense.

But I'm about done with Martinez and Thigpen. Would like to see upgrades at those levels of the defense.

IDT Shoop will leave, either-- I think he'll wait for a high profile offer. And I'm guessing DeBord is back... unless he wants to step away. But losing Mahoney, Z, Martinez and Thig would be a lot of turnover for a staff that has been so stable. If we do have major churn, it'll be interesting to see how CBJ deals with that.

I do not believe one iota that Dobbs plays in the NFL . Probably build an airplane or two but nothing wrong with that at all. :thud:

I am not saying he will or will not but there are some pretty bad qbs that (a)you would no think they would or (b) should not be in the NFL. But I am not pro or con on this question.

Raise.....maybe. Win the bowl game and you'd have me listening if I were the AD. Otherwise his contract should stay the same. Extension should be completely off the table.

Having information is only part of it. Using that information to best advantage is what really elevates. Are our coaches consistently doing that? That seems to be what many are questioning.

I don't disagree at all. Coaches make mistakes all the time. I just think it's not always obvious which ones are the mistakes and which ones are otherwise justified.

Ultimately, it's the record that up or down votes their employment.

As I said, It's a message board. Speculation is expected. Certainty of opinion could be a little less prevalent at times.

Obviously, this is my opinion and will largely be ignored. :)

Win the SEC east and he gets a bonus.

Win the SEC champ and he gets another bonus.

If Tenn makes it to the Sugar or one of the upper tier bowls, another bonus? (Not sure)

Lose one of last two games: nothing
Win SEC east: small raise/no extension
Win SEC champ: moderate to big raise/1 year extension
Win SEC champ/bowl game: big raise/2-3 year extension.

VolNation deflation devalues everybody's $0.02 to $0.00. Of course, some didn't have $0.02 to start with. :)

Off topic with the current discussion.

Why move Brooks to Oline(likely Tackle) if we are supposed to land Trey Smith. That put Smith, Hall, Kendrick, Tatum, Brooks, Richmond all at Tackle. Maybe they are expecting transfer or one of them to be a Guard?

Because he is too slowed by injury to do anything else. I bet he moves on soon.

Love Dobbs.. I hope he might go on to next level, but even if he doesn't he is going to be a success in life..

I would think Barnett is going to be the VOLS next great NFL player. He is about to beat Reggie White's record and is only in his third year. He's also got a Peyton Manning work ethic according to Butch.
