Dobbs will be a mix of Russell Wilson and Randall Cunningham in the NFL. Wilson's cool and calm with Cunningham's dynamic playmaking ability.

Dobbs has been held back by the surrounding pieces and coaching at UT. He'll be much better in the pros. Once he gets a decent offensive line and some good receivers he'll be a star.

You remember that time you had that long ass post about how Dobbs was trash and you hoped he and the team lost all their games then after we won, came back and lied by saying you were actually just trying to use some reverse psychology juju? That was cool.

No way under the sun Butch lets Shoop walk after year one

Critical year next season, and he is not going to bring in a 3rd DC. He also knows any other feasible option is a clear downgrade

People dogging a DC that doesn't even have DTs. That's flat out crazy. NO DC Can stop the run without DTs. Man lost 3 of the 4 linchpins of the defense early on then started losing DTs like crazy. Some calls I questions and I think we should go less cover 1 personally but he had 40+ sacks last year at Penn State. That doesn't happen by accident.

I think this season was more critical for Butch. We had all the pieces in place (before they got hurt). Next year is going to be a rebuild year at RB, QB, DE, LB, and even in the secondary.

Rebuild at LB? DKjr, Berry, Jumper, McDowell are back. Jrm hasn't played since Ohio(Florida he played what 3 drives). At QB it's not really a rebuild, more of reloading. Same thing at RB. Chandler, Kelly, Lewis/CFA we'll be fine

Yeah and that hasn't worked out well so far

True freshman QB in the SEC is always a huge question mark

Agreed, should be okay there

IMO LB is partly due to lack of experience. And little help at DT. Berry has shown flashes of potential but has been out of position a few times(lack of experience imo), DKjr has seemed to not be playing at 100%. And who knows JRM hasn't ruled out coming back.

I see your point at QB, lose experience. No doubt JG/Dormady is more talented tho.

DT is more of a rebuild than LB imo cuz who knows when Tuttle will be back so that would leave only Khalil and Vickers. Alexis has no PT, Phillips is a true DE, and the rest will be freshman.

And no disrespect to Dobbs. I'm gonna miss him and feel he's under appreciated by a lot of fans, he's in the UT record books. I just feel there won't be a drop off year 1 of him gone

Picou is on scholarship and Bain will contribute next year at DT as well imo. Not sure about Kongbo

Yeah Dobbs never throws at WRs feet or behind them nearly every route. Been plenty of plays where Dobbs made wrong read or bad throw that could have been huge plays

And there are also times he made something out of nothing and makes unbelievable game changing plays.

It goes both ways.

He's not perfect by any means but he'll be a star.

Love Dobbs.. I hope he might go on to next level, but even if he doesn't he is going to be a success in life..

I would think Barnett is going to be the VOLS next great NFL player. He is about to beat Reggie White's record and is only in his third year. He's also got a Peyton Manning work ethic according to Butch.

Nope.

Just cause you put up great stats in college doesn't mean you'll be great in the NFL. Barnett is undersized and not really that explosive as an athlete. I think he'll be a solid 10 year starter but no way will he be a STAR.

The following 5 guys have the highest star potential on the team (freshmen not included):

1. Cam Sutton & Alvin Kamara (tie) - both will be among the best players at their position in the NFL....I see a lot of pro-bowls in their future....Cam reminds me of Darrelle Revis while Alvin reminds me of Marshall Faulk

3. Josh Dobbs - will depend a lot on fit....he needs to the right situation and coach.....if he finds himself in a situation like Dak Prescott with a great supporting cast I believe Josh will be a smashing success in the NFL.....he reminds me of a blend of Russell Wilson and Randall Cunningham

4. Darrin Kirkland Jr. - he's got a lot of Bobby Wagner (Seahawks) in his game.

5. Jalen Hurd - hopefully he gets his head on straight....if he stays a RB I believe he can be a pro-bowl RB in the NFL....he reminds me of a more explosive Eddie George

Barnett has less pro potential than all 5 of these players.

You lost all credibility when you didn't include Barnett on your list.

I've been consistent on this. Derek Barnett does not have a high ceiling as a NFL player.

Now I want to stress this point. I'm not saying he'll be a BUST. I'm just saying he won't be a STAR. There are many good NFL players that never develop into stars. That's all I'm saying about Barnett.

I think his body, skill, and talent reminds me of Charles Johnson (long-time DE for the Panthers). Like Johnson I expect Barnett to be a 10 year starter, have a couple of 10 sack seasons, but never become a pro-bowl/star caliber player.

He'll just be solid in the pros. Not a star.

Raise.....maybe. Win the bowl game and you'd have me listening if I were the AD. Otherwise his contract should stay the same. Extension should be completely off the table.

If we don't get give him a raise and extension the finish to this recruiting class will be underwhelming indeed. It would put the program in a bad place.

I personally think if we got 9-3 and win the east he will have earned it. The injuries and clubhouse issues we've dealt with would have completely sunk many lesser coaches. His recruiting and team management have kept us where we are.

Most fans are completely unreasonable in their expectations. The injuries are real and they are significant.

Top 3 pick

And?

Jared Goff went #1 overall and can't get off the bench while Dak Prescott went in the 4th round and has benched a former pro bowl QB and looks like an MVP candidate as a rookie.

I'm sure Barnett will be drafted high. NFL teams like fans get fooled by college stats.

I'm not saying Barnett won't be drafted highly. I'm saying he won't be a STAR in the NFL. Those are 2 different things.

NFL QB typically need a year to sit. Not a good comparison. McNair sat for more than one (Fisher thing)

Anyone who breaks Reggie Whites record can play at any level. There have been a ton of great players here that haven't come close to that record.

Stop. LB and DB doesn't change.

There is experience back everywhere. Expectations shouldn't drop.

Okay, play him both ways then cause he's the most sure handed receiver on the team also

I would not mind seeing JJ take snaps on both sides of the ball. Someone said that he would be too much of an indicator we are going to pass if he played selected snaps on offense. I think that he would definitely draw attention, but you can do a lot with that, too. You can use him as a decoy to keep the D honest or just use him as we have until now. He is great at blocking in the open field and is, as all of us know by now, a dog. Love this dude.
