Barnett, Lewis, Vereen, vickers are 4 pieces of a DL that this program would have died for a few years back.
Add a 5star phillips and Kingbo and it looks even more impressive. Mixon has played a hell of a lot of football and has been around for a long time. Picou is in his second year in the program and should be contributing.
Even with the injuries there are plenty of pieces on that DL to be an average defense. A DC like Justin Wilcox would have killed it with that DL.
Here you go.
Which DL you take?
2011: Jackson, Bohanon, Smith, Martin, Miller, Hood
2016: Barnett, vickers, Vereen, phillips, Lewis
Neither team had any quality depth at DT. I would vote 2016 but agree it's close.
2011: gave up 22.6 PTs a game
2016: 26.9
2011: gave up 162 yard rushing a game
2016: 216
20ll also had a terrible secondary with very young LBs.
Glad to have Sutton and Foreman back for this one.
Drew Lock looks good against bad defenses, but sucks against good ones. Combined 44-of-106, 1 TD, 3 INT against WV, Florida, and LSU. Unfortunately, we aren't on that level at the moment. Doesn't get sacked much, only 10 on the year. Hope our DL can add to that total.
On defense, the DE Charles Harris is good, and they'll pick off a dumb pass. But they can't stop the run. As long as Dobbs plays smart, we should score at will.
Not a game I'm afraid of unless Bad Dobbs shows up again.
Why is it so hard for some to understand how incredibly hard it is to coach a defense that has a new lineup every week? Especially in year 1 of that defense with a DC that wasn't able to bring any other coaches with him to teach his system?
Defense is all about playing your role and trusting the guy next to you knows his role. Due to know consistency at any position on the field it has led to misfits, bad alignments and miscommunication.
Name a position group besides DE that has been the same week in and week out?
