Why is it so hard for some to understand how incredibly hard it is to coach a defense that has a new lineup every week? Especially in year 1 of that defense with a DC that wasn't able to bring any other coaches with him to teach his system?
Exactly why I have said shoop is better for the long term but Jancek would have been better this year. Jancek is a better gameplanner and knew the roster. The revolving door due to injuries has minimized Shoops game day adjustments which have been better than Jancek.
Just wait.
In 3 years Kamara, Sutton, Kirkland, Hurd, and Dobbs will all be pro-bowlers in the pros and we'll be wondering why we couldn't win more games here with so much elite NFL talent.
Remember those names.
That's our 6 best players in terms of pro potential in the senior through sophomore classes.
It's too early to judge the freshmen.
I would love to know how his defense did at Vandy and Penn State at the start of Games. I am hoping the unfamiliarity and injuries have hampered his gameplanning and this year is an outlier.
You could probably go on the internet and find out. Or just keep blindly hoping and Bruining opinions as facts.![]()
This. To engage Bruin is an exercise in futility.
You have to be strong at DT to engage more double teams there to free up your DE's to do their thing. Raise your hand if you want to see Barnett and Vereen going against one blocker instead of 2 or 3. This destroys the run and passing game of opponents. Even #53 could be adequate slowing down the run game with that happening. Notice his best games were when they had decent DT's in the games? This isn't even hard to understand. A middle schooler can do it.
FWIW we've had a Barnett style, not quite as good, who had a very good NFL career. His name is Shaun Ellis. He wears an NC ring and was All Pro twice as the #12 pick in the first round to the NYJ. Barnett is quicker, better technique, and more disruptive than even Shaun.
I have watched every play all year and that is good enough for me to know Shoop has put an unprepared Defense on the field every week. If you choose to check box scores from years past have it.
Guess who has played the toughest schedule in the nation thus far....again?
