I am not sure that I understood the end result on the return. If I remember, a facemask was called on the defense, and that was declined. The holding was called on us, and Butch took it because it was still decent field position. Can you trip someone to make a tackle? Because I thought they were going to call tripping on the Bama defender who eventually tackled Berry. Watch that replay again.

So, they call that hold on us yet completely miss the obvious hold on the Eddie Jackson punt return. Right in front of the side judge.

That actually makes more sense. I thought they were both on UT, and the ref called it funny. They still didn't show either foul. Maybe Verne and Gary explained it, and I just skipped past it (not likely). I hate the lack of replay these days.

I know what you're talking about with the tripping. I'd have to look again to see if it looked intentional.

I haven't gotten to the Bama return yet.

You can see teams that run great offensive schemes keep the defense constantly on their toes guessing what the offense will do next... Debord may come up with a few good drives now and then, but he certainly does not have the capability, or has not shown the capability yet, of keeping opposing D's off balance and guessing... When the majority of first and second downs in each drive consist of running up the middle behind a O line on life support, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what we are going to do. How many times have we thrown on first down and truly mixed up the play calling to where DC's don't know what we will do next? That seems to be when long drives are put together and you wear out Defenses... Yes, we have been limited at times with players, but there is a lot more that could have been done to keep D's on their heels this season than we've seen thus far. To this point, I can only remember 2, maybe 3 games where we have seen Dobbs take over a game with his legs where it wasn't required because we were down and trying to make a comeback. It would not hurt my feeling to see a change at OC at the end of the season, along with the OL coach and WR coach... Butch has been here long enough and coaches can see where this program is headed, that he shouldn't have trouble finding upgrades.

You know, looking at this list, it strikes me how cyclical college football really is. During the later days of Fulmer, a big knock on him was that in the 90s and early 00s he feasted on an SEC with a plethora of bad coaches- Ray Goff/Donnan at UGA, Dubose at Bama, Bowden at Auburn, and whatever stiffs Arkansas, USC, Kentucky and Vandy trotted out that year. Then, as we got into the 00s, you had Spurrier (his lone nemisis in the glory years) bridge from Florida to USC, Meyer at Florida, Saban bridging LSU and Bama, Richt at UGA, Tuberville going from Ole Miss to Auburn, and all of the sudden you had a ton of elite to near-elite coaches in the SEC, and it ascended to the top of the college football world.

Now, I don't think there is a single elite coach aside from Saban in the SEC. Moreover, I think it's debatable whether any present coach in the SEC even has the potential to be elite. I like Butch, and hope he becomes elite, but I think it's still very much a toss-up.

My point though, is that this is the worst roster of SEC coaches in two decades.

Just a thought.

Your exactly right about only have 1 elite coach in the SEC right now, but about 10-12 years ago, there were 5 coaches all in the SEC at 1 time that had won a National Championship: Fulmer, Spurrier, Miles, Saban, Meyer and that's when the SEC was without a doubt the best league...........

I don't think Stoops is elite.

I don't think Freeze should be there. He's done nothing but cheat and he's not very good at it.

Im not biased but Stoops is REALLY GOOD, his resume speaks for itself

As far as Freeze, he is an excellent at putting players in positions to succeed, I would rate him OUTSTANDING in that category.....

Interesting that you don't have Dabo on your list. Not saying you're right or wrong, just interesting. What about Herman?

Dabo would be on the bottom of the 2nd tier or atop the 3rd group due to the fact, he has NOT won enough big games and Fisher has the edge when they have gone head up......kinda like fulmer vs Spurrier....

I think there should be a rule that anyone advocating for the firing of a coach must also post at least three candidates to replace that coach. At least it would give us something else to consider.

I especially think this is important for anyone calling for a HC to be fired. It's not just getting rid of a guy. It's who you can get in return.

If this were a rule, the number of statements would be cut in half lol.
I ask "who" often when people say hire a coach that can beat Saban, I'm not sure I've ever gotten an answer.

What makes Harbaugh ELITE are the 3 programs that he inherited and within 2 years those programs won conf championships even in the NFL, he did the same thing and after he left SF.........look how bad they got PRETTY FAST.........

Does he lose points for being a do͞oSHbaɡ?

harbaugh is a good coach, but can't be considered Elite in College yet, he hasn't done anything...

what makes Harbaugh elite is just take a look at the programs 3 years before he took over those schools: San Diego then Stanford then the 49ers and not to mention Michigan....... You could not get any lower than San Diego and Stanford were at before he turned them around in 2 years

If they don't make a bowl game I bet that drops them to #25 in the final AP ranking.

Lol!

Let me pose a question though: If I ranked a team #13, and their schedule consisted of playing teams ranked 1-12, would a drop in ranking be merited if they finished 0-12?

Just reading random articles and I like how the media is like quick before Tennessee wins again let's bash them as much as we can. I find it humorous.

ooh, that SEC INSIDE has got to burn for Georgia. They tend to focus on the team they think will win.. It's Georgia vs. Vandy.

Freeze is a good offensive mind who can't figure out how to run and is killing his defense. He can scheme a passing game though.

Maybe but he doesn't belong on a list of top ten coaches. He's developed his reputation on players he paid to get and keep.

We'll just have to meet at a Waffle House and agree to disagree.

imo he falls into the good range. Is he inconsistent? Yes (although i think lack of execution on players part sometimes skews that). I don't think he is wildly inconsistent. A lot of what he does/calls is to set up bigger plays. Not every play is meant to be a home run or big yardage play, but merely meant to gain some yards (more if the player breaks free). Repeating those types of plays a few times is meant to get the defense to cheat towards it when they recognize the set, then hit them with something they aren't expecting/ prepared for.

Good example is the screen pass that everyone seems to hate. A lot of times when they are being called it is to set up something else on a future play. Get the defense to cheat towards it next time, then hit the big play over the top. The problem on many of those screens has been piss poor blocking and the fact that teams didn't feel they had to cheat in order to stop it. That's execution, not play calling.

All jmo of course.

Nice to discuss the actual intricacies of games intellectually though. I've pretty much stopped posting on here recently, because i got tired of talking to morans, i don't have a problem with disagreeing. I do however have a problem with idiots.

fify..
